Stick it, Stick it real good!In the book Heart of a Champion (The biography of Dominque Dawes) many inspiring things happen. Dominque’s first ever gymnastics class was cancelled. (I thought that was interesting.) She was born in Maryland. The book was about how Dominque became an Olympic gymnast. That’s not only what it was about, the book included the struggles she went through to get there. It also talked about what she does now. She has made a big difference in people’s lives. Dominque is a CEO of the movement of 60 minutes a day of play.In this book some of the main characters are Dominque herself. She is such a sweet young lady! She is a Christian that puts her life in God’s hands. Dominque speaks out loud to kids and teens all around the world. She is a motivator.Kelly (her coach) has been a big influence to her. Coach Kelly has been her coach since she was a little tot! Dominque and her still are great friends today. Dominque actually lived with her for a little while. You will have to read the book to find out why. This book has a great moral or lesson. It taught me to put my WHOLE life in God’s hands. She did and look where it got her. Yes, she did have hard times but, that’s life. She pushed through it and still worshiped the one and only God!I recommend this book to people who like inspiring books. Just about anybody can read this and enjoy it. It’s more than a biography it’s a great book. Get your copy today!

Great story

This review is difficult as I love Dominique Dawes and definitely consider her to be one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. She is an amazing athlete, and she deserved a better biography than this one. It's written for young readers, so the simplistic phrasing and prose is to be expected. However, there were several continuity errors and inaccuracies about the sport of gymnastics. A few examples: late in the book the author explains why Dominique chose to stay at the University of Maryland - except she never told the reader that she went there in the first place. She only mentioned that Dominique decided not to go to Stanford, but was glad she was still going to school (which was incredibly confusing). She refers to 1996 teammate Amanda Borden once and only says "Amanda said..." and never tells the reader who Amanda was or why she was important. The author also talks about the "3-up, 3-count" scoring formula of the team finals when talking about competitions in the early 1990s - that format was not in place at that time. She also mentions that currently, each year, still only 7 gymnasts make the Olympic team. It's actually 5 (and was 5 when the book was written), though it will be going to 4 at the next Olympics. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but the numerous inaccuracies and the random mentions of people and places without any context or explanation were really frustrating, and would be confusing for young readers.

I have watched Dominique in gymnastics every since 1991. This is a great book highlighting all her success in the gym and out the gym. I have always wondered how her parents thought about her gymnastics. Reading the book I found out.

inspiring book for young person

I recommend this book to kids and adults. It is very inspiring for everyone, gymnast or not. It tells about more than just her gymnastics career, like her life afterwards too.

Book is for our granddaughter. Another story of a girl who made good! It isn't easy to find good biographies for kids.

On the subject of baked products, I like this book because the all-purpose flour blend contains some flours that pump up the fiber. The gluten -free flour blend for breads also includes flours that are high in fiber.Some of my favorite baked goods from this book include:Olive & Herb focaccia with the wonder toppings including kalamata olives, rosemary, thyme, fresh minced garlic and Romano cheese.Cinnamon Scones.Strawberry shorcakesfudge cookies , rich and chocolaty wiht semisweet choc chips ,butter and dutch process cocoa powder (what a treat)Our family loves eggplant, so we really like the midweek moussaka recipes ,Salmon- potato flakes with mustard tartar sauce - so - good and a great tartar sauce with mayo, sour cream , course grain mustard, lemon juice and chopped pickle if you like.Southern fied catfish with hush puppies.flourless chocolate cake.I feel the best part of the book is the flour blends , they work well and they have the fiber. A lot of the main dish recipes are just so so.

The cookbook arrived today and I can say this is the MOST exciting gluten-free cookbook I've seen to date. Everything about the book is inviting! The pictures combined with the recipes make you want to start trying out even more things as soon as possible. I usually flip through an entire book to find the recipes I'm going to try out. With this book, it would be easier to have skipped this process because there are only a few I do not plan on testing.I appreciate the time spent for clarifying the proportions to make my own flour blends. Other books were not so clear, nor do they explain the rationale for the building blocks. I'm rather new to the baking scene and have been successful with my own variations on things, but this makes it much clearer.This is one is named correctly and an absolute must have. The recipes are super CAN DO!

Great recipe book. My husband has always been vegetarian, and was diagnosed less than a year ago with Celiac disease. This book gave me some great ideas for new dishes, and I just modify the ones that include meat. It's hard relearning how to cook without any gluten...this book certainly helped it not be as frustrating.

First it should be known that anyone living at high altitude, none of the baking will work but it still deserves 5 stars. For 4 years now I have struggled trying to find gluten free meals to make and understand what is so important that without gluten things taste like drywall and worse. The great thing about this book is that it explains why gluten does what it does, it adds side notes about substituting dairy and the meals are really simple. So simple that you can take off on your own. I have purchased this book for 6 other people and they have been elated. A must have.Note to authors: If you do another one, please remember us high altitude folks. Cakes, breads, muffins, nothing will turn out other than flatter than a piece of paper.

Bought this book after deciding to try a gluten-free diet to help with some digestive problems. Not only does she give a good introduction into what gluten is and how to introduce yourself into this kind of diet, she also give tons of easy recipes for all meal types, as well as a recipe to simulate both all purpose and baking flour. Although I don't have children, I like that she includes some ideas for getting children used to eating gluten free, and some kid-friendly recipes for them to try themselves, too. I have lent this book out to other friends thinking about losing the gluten, and they all seem to enjoy it as well.

This is a wonderful cookbook with beautiful pictures for almost every recipe. I love that they have a dairy-free variation for many of the recipes as we have several people in the family that are dairy intolerant besides gluten. There are several recipes without eggs (granddaughter cannot have eggs) that were wonderful. Just made the fudge cookies...so good. Also tried the chocolate pudding...delicious. And the golden kolachy recipe was absolutely the best. No one could tell that they were gluten free!I love the flour mix as well. It uses almond flour and I think that that has made the difference in the baked goods. Very happy with this book. I am going to buy a copy for my daughter and granddaughter as well.

I am not a good cook. Since becoming gluten free I have started cooking my own food. A friend had this book and I flipped through it to view the recipes. I really liked them, so I bought it. Great price too! I have made the risotto recipe and it was amazing. My boyfriend ate it and raved about it. He doesn't like gluten free or rice, so I knew it was good! We made four recipes so far and loved them all!

I've made many of these dishes and they were only ok. Nothing mind blowing. And lets face it, if you're going to call yourself a Bible, it should be mind blowing.Awesome picturesClear InstructionsVery pretty book....but the recipes are only ok.Waste of money.Also, some of the recipes are just.... a rip off... More than 4% of all mortgage loans are delinquent and heading towards foreclosure. This creates a market where properties can be purchased at a fraction of their original cost by investors. This book differs from others in the genre because it explores in detail more modern approaches as well as the tried and true. I found this section helpful because it gave me very specific ideas of how I could use technology better within the industry. Budgeting is very important when buying properties. i wanted to learn about investing in foreclosures so i purchased this book. it's full of resources and solid advice. it's obvious that the writer has much experience in this field. the writing is easy to read and humorous at times. highly recommended.

I found this book more simplistic, in a negative way, then any "....for dummies" book and I tossed it.

This material is good basic information for anyone wanting to get started in buying potential foreclosure properties. Begins by explaining basic terms and processes - eg. mortgage foreclosures lead to Sheriff's Sales, while Deeds of Trust lead to "Trustee's Sales" and lack a redemption period (owners can buy back their property during this period, leaving you with nothing to show for your effort, though you do get your money back).On average, foreclosure buyers have 90 days + 20 days publication time to work a deal with the homeowners. Buying from onwers prior to foreclosure also eliminates the redemption period. FHA and VA loans are much more likely to be assumable.Buying at auction means having to contend with competitors, an inability to inspect the property prior to bidding, and all sales being final. After foreclosure one is less likely to get a good price, it is harder to inspect the property (utilities probably turned off).Finding foreclosure properties is eased by looking in public records for "Lis Pendens" (judicial process) or the "Notice of Default" (non-judicial process); there is also the later Foreclosure Auction notice. Other sources include looking in the newspaper of record and/or the County Recorder database. What can I say? A Court of Wings and Ruin was totally enthralling, in fact the Court of Thorns and Roses series was everything I hoped for and then some. I need to process everything about Feyre Acheron, Rhysand and the characters in this series before I write more, but I can say that this book certainly did a good job on how to end a series, with love and hope and happiness painting the grand finale. As I told my family, Sarah Maas deserves thunderous applause yet again for this series. I know this review doesn't do this book justice, but I need to finish processing this epic series before I write a further review.Jack Murphy

***SPOILERS***Y'all.Y'ALL.Let me start off by saying I LOVED ACOMAF with everything in me. That book will forever stay in my top 3.But this? This book I will probably never read again.2 stars knocked off for two reasons.1) My poor love-bucket Azriel was done DIRTY. I'm all for gay relationships (Gallavich anyone?) but Morrigan, what the hell?! How dare you string my baby along for centuries! I understand being scared/afraid to come out, but to know that someone is so deeply in love with you and allow that to go on for literally hundreds of years WHILE TAKING OTHER MEN TO BED with ZERO explanation as to why Az was simply not making the cut, seemed like a pretty big slap in the face if you ask me. I don't see myself every getting over that. Ever. I cried when I read her confession to Feyre, not for Mor - but for Az, because it felt like utter betrayal.Unless Morrigan can pull the world's largest, most heartfelt apology out of her ass in the next continuation, then I will remain salty af for probably the next hundred years.2) Nesta & Elain. Okay, I was totally riding the sympathy train in the beginning of the book - their lives had been turned upside down, blah blah blah, but I mean come on! At some point, Elain should've shown some minute acceptance rather than being little more than an annoying liability. I really really REALLY don't like Elain. I didn't much care for her to begin with, but blegh. Continuing to pine after Graysen and be mopey overall - pass.As for Nesta, I still live for her banter/sexual tension with Cassian, but there's playing hard to get and then there's whatever she's doing. It's obnoxious. Don't lay one on my man in the heat of battle and then act as if he doesn't exist two days later. Girl, bye.A few other things bothered me as well - parts felt rushed. Too many characters were introduced and it was a time trying to keep up with everyone. Amren/Feyre/Nesta with their INSANE powers all fell a little flat for me when game time came. Tamlin in general gave me whiplash.All that being said, there were things I liked in this book:-Ianthe and her death (:-The Bone Carver/Bryaxis-Cassian-JURIAN (I honestly did not see that coming)-Lucien (even though he was remarkably absent for most of it)-The war scenes (so easy to picture)This book was not great for me, but I still have hope for the next installment, whoever it may be about.P.S. Sarah - don't think I'm not serious as a heart attack when I say I expect big things for Azriel in the future, or you will lose a reader(:

Sadly, this third installment was somewhat of a letdown after the amazingness of ACOMAF. Overall, I do still love the series, but was disappointed with this one for a variety of reasons:**SPOILERS BELOW:- First off, I felt the pacing was off in several areas, and there were a handful of times where certain events/ideas were seemingly thrown in haphazardly. (For example, it made NO SENSE to me that Feyre would go off by herself to find the Suriel, IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE, to find the location of Hybern's main army?... I actually really enjoyed the inclusion of the Suriel storyline, but the timing of it didn't make ANY sense to me, and there really was no need to lie about it to the other characters & cause unnecessary tension/trust issues with them... It was just odd. And on that note, basically every time Feyre went off on her own to accomplish something, it was somewhat puzzling to me. I get that Maas was trying to establish that Feyre is now this badass, independent, strong woman that can take care of herself, but really, in most cases it just seemed like a dumb idea for her to leave her squad and/or lie about it, and it certainly felt like she was less effective without them most of the time). As for the pacing, there were parts of the story that seemed to drag & felt somewhat unnecessary, while others felt super rushed and unfinished. This was a HUGE difference from the first two books, both of which I literally couldn't put down, due to the pacing & crazy suspense/tension running throughout. By contrast, there were several parts in ACOWAR that felt like filler, or felt completely unnecessary & out of place?-Another frustrating aspect were all of the undeveloped characters and relationships. For example, there is virtually no change in the Cassian-Nesta and Lucien-Elain storylines throughout the story. Other than a few glimmers of actual emotions/feelings from Nesta, she remains extremely detached and distant the ENTIRE book, which made it difficult for me to root for her (to be fair, she did have that badass moment at the end with Cassian & Hybern, but then she seems to immediately retreat back to her same brooding, distant self?). I don't know, based on other reviews, I might be alone in my dislike of Nesta, but I just felt like Cassian was WAY too good for her, from the beginning to the end. And then there's Lucien's unrequited feelings for Elain that never advanced through the story at all, partly because Lucien was absent, and partly because Elain seems to have the disposition & personality of a mannequin. I mean, we get it... yes, we know Nesta and Elain are very upset about being immortal. But like, at some point shouldn't they have moved on? At least a little? It was almost like they were lobotomized in that cauldron, and they came out with no personality or emotion. Also, Azriel suddenly showing interest in Elain seemed pretty out of character and odd? As for Mor - I'm totally okay with the direction Maas went with her, but I'm pretty pissed that it means she's been stringing Azriel along (and sleeping with lots of other men, I might add) for literally HUNDREDS OF YEARS. WTH?... And while Mor's explanation for doing so is somewhat understandable, it still doesn't excuse the fact that she's been hiding the truth from him, when she's very aware he loves her.-And then there's Feyre and Rhysand -- they were probably my favorite literary couple, as written in ACOMAF. Sadly, they were almost boring together in ACOWAR. Where did the intensity/passion/teamwork/banter between them go? It's like all of the exciting & good aspects of their relationship were watered down. And I feel like there was SO MUCH missed opportunity for them to be working together, being a powerful, magical, badass duo, but there was really very little of that. And as for their passion/intensity, it wasn't even close to the connection they had in ACOMAF. As many have mentioned, the sex scenes were somewhat graphic (though not any more graphic than those in ACOMAF), yet they were COMPLETELY lacking the emotion and intensity that was conveyed in ACOMAF. For the most part, there were just a lot of off-hand remarks and references to them not being able to keep their hands off each other, but the actual sex scenes were decidedly un-hot and just kind of unnecessary? My overall feeling about them together in this book can be summed up as MEH, which is such a bummer. Especially because I get the impression the remaining books in the series will focus on Feyre's sisters and others in the group, so it's disappointing that the end of Feyre & Rhysand's story felt so underwhelming.-There were some great aspects to the book, though. The highlights for me were: AMREN (she was awesome in this), the Suriel, the Library, meeting the High Lords, warrior Cassian, and Jurian.Bottom line, it was an okay third book - I did enjoy reading it for the most part, and still love the series overall, but it was FOR SURE the weakest of the three for me (my gauge for this is that while I've re-read the first & second books many times, I have no desire to re-read this one)... And sadly, given the lack of growth in many of the side characters, I'm just not that excited to see what happens with them in the upcoming books.

An interesting choice of subject for a picture book biography. Barb Rosenstock's text provides a window into challenging issues - disability, loneliness, hardship - while showing young readers how Dorothea's own sufferings might have taught her the compassion and persistence she needed to communicate with her subjects: "Dorothea's eyes help us see with our hearts." Selection of images at the back are both a historical record and a document of the rapport Lange achieved with migrant workers, an ex-slave, men on a bread line. Meticulously researched, with a timeline and extended bibliography for readers who might want to learn more. Relevant to social issues of today and the heartbreaking situations that children are asked to live and to witness.

This is a complex text for savvy picture book readers—at points lyrical and abstract, at other points literal in details about Lange’s life. Rosenstock has created an intimate portrait of Lange while also creating a picture of this time period. There’s a lot happening in the book that would be better understood with some background knowledge about the Depression—perhaps as part of an integrated unit of study.. That said – it’s a powerfully told story with strong themes—disability, invisibility, loneliness, curiosity, knowing with your eyes and/or your heart. This would make for good reading and rereading and thorough discussion with intermediate grade students. The book ends with photos we all know Lange for including Migrant Mother. There’s a great author’s note about Lange at the end of the book with a timeline. I totally agree with the audience age recommended – 2nd through 7th grade. Rosenstock has written several picture book biographies that are worthy of our students’ time.

A picture book biography of photographer Dorothea Lange, who overcame disabilities suffered because of polio, defied convention by becoming a photographer even though she was a woman, and stepped outside the studio to photograph the lonely and forgotten.Another great picture book biography about someone who overcame their own difficulties, and used a "small" skill to help make other lives better. I recognized several of her photographs, but didn't know about the woman behind them or the impact she had during the Great Depression and beyond.

Fabulous.

Beautiful. Poetic. Compassionate. Depth. We see it with our eyes and our hearts. Easily one of the best picture books I've ever encountered.
