I love my Fodor's guide books, but this one has been a disappointment. I plan on taking a grand tour around Utah and visit its national parks, i do not however will be using this guide book as a companion.First 170 pages are dedicated to Salt Lake City and the surrounding area. 170 pages! That is more than half of the book. I will not be spending any time in Salt Lake other than flying in and picking up a rental car, so I feel like half of the book would get wasted anyways.The rest of the chapters that are dedicated to Arches National Park, Zion, Bryce Canyon and couple more NP of Utah are okay.But my biggest issue is that this book IS NOT IN FULL COLOR. I have been buying Fodor's guide books for a while now because i love how all the information is organized and i love the shiny pages with colorful pictures and maps.This guide book is not! There are only couple pages at the front that have pictures, but the rest of the book is in monochromatic orange, black and white. Not appealing to me at all.I'm sorry, but i am a visual person, and this was a big disappointment, therefore i am returning the book. I ordered Fodor's National Parks of the North West, instead. So i know they won't waste 100-something pages on a single city.
This was an average book for the Salt Lake/Park City/Arches. Information was already out of date, including the rates for national parks ($25 for a car, not $10) and I found the maps to be confusing--this is a serious issue when you may not have service to access online maps. I used online sources at the hotel and will be returning this book.
This is a solid guide for any Utah enthusiast. We are Utah locals, but we bought this to find new places to eat, hike, drive, and explore, and this book did not disappoint. The book does a pretty good job of being thorough. We'd recommend this book for travelers and for locals.
Planning a Girl Scout trip with 18 teenage girls is always a challenge but this book has helped make that task a little easier! It's very easy to read and being sectioned off by main areas of interest and things to do in the surrounding area is amazing! I love that each chapter includes maps, price ranges, and places to eat, stay and play. One this I wish it had more of was images for some of the places they recommend for visual people like myself. A great tour guide and I can't wait to take with me this summer!
Overall this was a useful guide to Utah, covering major locations and attractions. The amount of information provided was reasonable -- the essentials were covered well without going into excessive detail about less important topics. The largest drawback was the lack of photos (especially when compared to other Fodor's books I have purchased). Aside from the color photography in the introduction, there is just one black-and-white photo for each chapter. For a place like Utah, where so much of the tourism is based on the state's visual beauty, it was frustrating to not have a better sense of what the various attractions looked like.
these books are ok, but leave so much out. doesn't begin to cover what was available to do in southern utah. i thought it would cover quite a bit of the national parks as they were listed on the cover, but information was really sketchy. would be really nice if it could include where dogs are permitted and which trails they are not. will not be buying any more of these types of books.
The book information and contents are very good and helpful. I have ordered other Fodor's travel books and knew I would be happy with it. The reason I wanted to give my review is that the condition of the book wasn't as good as I had hoped. I paid $10.00 for a book that I thought was close to new condition. It was in less than good condition. I don't want to go to all the trouble to send it back.
Wish it would have been more detailed about the different Canyons. Spent almost half the book on Salt Lake City area which I had been too before.
