Terrible. This would have only been for fanatics on its release date long ago but now it makes pop culture seem like an utter waste of time. Bought out of curiosity and because it was marked far down. And almost no content on the Wack Pack (pre-Wack Pack mostly). When I prune my library, this will be the first discarded.

I am a HUGE Howard Stern fan & have been since 1993. I've read his first tome, "Private Parts" a handful of times through the years & enjoy it every single time. Now this book on the other hand is nothing like "PP". Even recently HS has said that he wishes he could rewrite it. I bought this book thinking that the 1st time I tried to read it was so long ago that maybe I didn't give it a chance. Well, I've read it again now, & the only thing I can say is that it was a tad better the 2nd time around. There is more insight into the on-air players & other staff that is interesting. Overall though, it feels like an empty read for a true fan. Just a follow up to the 1st book to make some $$. Stick with "Private Parts" for a funnier, more interesting read. This book is okay to keep in your bathroom & skip around reading certain parts here & there; a lot can be skipped. And Howard even agrees! :)

Good condition and I mean itâ€™s Howard Stern heâ€™s a genius everything he does turns to platinum so if corse itâ€™s an amazing book!

Book condition and transaction exceeded my expectations. I am just really disappointed with the content and writing. Am a huge Stern fan, and wasn't expecting Shakespeare in this instance......Just fell way short of the funny I was seeking. Hardly the seller's fault. :)

I used Kplan GMAT few years back and raised my score by 70 points in 30 days. It focuses on the fundamentals in the beginning which is imperative in order to build upon deeper and more challenging subjects ahead. I like how the book is separate and structured for learning one key concept every lesson. This helps students to not get overwhelmed by all the material at once. I would highly recommend to anyone who is serious about getting into a top MBA program.

I found this Kaplan review perhaps the most helpful GMAT guide on the market (out of several I ordered). It was my primary study guide.The Official GMAT Guides take a very formal approach (like a textbook) and generally don't "prep" or "coach" you for the GMAT as book does (but I found this book also does a good job of teaching the material). This book is well-suited for studying and taking the GMAT under time constraints and is a good all-around GMAT study aid.I was initially reluctant to purchase Kaplan because of their poor reputation in LSAT Prep but I found their GMAT guide very helpful (especially the Quantitative sections). It gives an excellent, concise quantitative review mixed with expert test taking strategies.The verbal sections are also good as wellHighly recommended!!

Not impressed. Instead of the CD...most of the stuff is online. That's the only diff. But overall a good prep for GMAT. Kaplan's are always tougher to score and better to practice compared to the others.

I really liked this book. I thought the layout was nice and it did a pretty good job of explaining each of the sections. The online portion was good as it had plenty of practice exams and monthly quizzes. I had a Princeton Review online course before and compared to that, Kaplan was amazing! All that being said, I rate this a 5 stars probably not 100% due to the content of this book, but because of what I used before, Kaplan was 50x better than the PR course I bought.One of the Cons of this program: On the practice exams, it shows you a graphical breakdown between your Quant and Verbal sections, but it does not show you a break down among the sub sections like CR, RC, SC, PS, and DS. That would have been nice so you could see which areas were your weakest.For the money, a GREAT deal!

This book was alright for studying the GMAT. After taking the test I felt like it left some important areas out but did cover some others pretty well. It is readable and guides you through problems well but it's not how you'll get a 700+.

This book is good .Qauntative techniques are good . They are well explained . But Verbal and Sentence correction you need to refer more books . but Overall this book quiet good at least to kick off

I ordered this book looking forward to using the online practice features. Unfortunately, Kaplan said the code was already used. Since I can't access the online tools, I only have one practice test and no diagnostics. Waste of money.

I scored 750 on the GMAT and, but still could not really understand what Live Online implied reading the description. So I bought the book to see for myself. I was expecting more - so far it is the same as Kaplan GMAT Premier Program, 2009 (Book & CD-ROM) except that instead of CD, tests and quizzes are online now. If you own 2009 Premier book, there is no value for you to buy this edition. If you are new to Kaplan Premiere - it is a great guidebook. Jonathan Sun is the author behind @jonnysun. When he isn't tweeting, he is an architect, designer, engineer, artist, playwright and comedy writer. I know a lot of people have said that this book is "mind blowing" and "earth shattering" and whatnot but I just wanted to clarify that, at its core, this book is soft and gentle and warm. It feels less like a startling revolution and more like a kind reminder of everything you already know to be true. It is honest and wonderful and remarkable and that is it's magic.

I read this book with my preadolescent son. He was attentive all the time, dazzled by some of the thoughts and sentences of this wise book. Once we finished reading, he summed everything up in a simple phrase, â€œthis book is full of existentialist stuff.â€ The book is a collection of thoughts about life and death, made mostly by animals, who together personify the whole zoo of human anxieties.The reflections are smartly threaded together. The author shies away from the ironic detachment and the indignant engagement that characterize many of his contemporaries. He embraces a tragic approach to life, love, work, art and death.As a way to recruit the cynical and the angry, let me give you a few examples of the authorâ€™s quiet wisdom: about sadness ("if u are sad becuase happiness is fleeting, just remember that sadness is also fleeting too"), about the trap of knowledge ("iâ€™m trying to be a wiser owl but the more i learn about the world, the bigger it seems and the smaller i feel"), about the paradoxical nature of relationships ("the harder it is to say goobye to sombody, the luckier u are to have met sombody ur going to miss"), about lasting love ("we internalize traits we observe in others as a way to honor and remeber them. we are all living memorials") and about life in general ("the universe is most generous when somehow, agaimst all odds, it finds a way of telling you ur seeing somethimg for the last time in ur life").I recommend this book. All in all, it gives you the simple (and rare) pleasure of melancholy: â€œenjoy ur sadness one day even ur sadness will be over too soon.â€

This book is poigniant graphic story that anyone from ages 7 to 70 will find something to adore about it. Empathizing with fear, imposter syndrome, loneliness, friendship, exploration, and how our worldview shapes our world- this book says so much with so little. Poetic and profound while simplicity makes it wonderfully accessible. Reading it felt like getting a mental hug while being told you're not alone.

There are graphic books that enchant because of the quality detailed artwork, others because they have one's favourite characters in them, and others because they are like an entertaining movie that one truly enjoys and cannot put down. However, sometimes one come across books that we love despite not having any of that, books that one loves because they are fresh and refreshing, funny and full of wisdom, all at the same time.The alien in this graphic novel is like a small child with poor literacy skills to whom the world around has never been explained except for a few generic facts, and who discovers it on its own. Its clean eye notices the idiosyncrasy and contradictions of human nature without any judgement, just puzzlement at times. Sadness, happiness, personal identity, and the fear of the unknown are some of the themes posed to the reader throughout this comic. My favourite characters are the egg that wants to be a frog (an analogy for so many existential quests) and Nothing(ness) and its God-like wisdom. The texts are naive, witty, hilarious at time, sweet and wise; the book ends with the cute alien's travel log, which contains some philosophical witty tweets to ponder about. The drawing is simple, purposely child-like. I thought that the book feeds on some premises we can find in some of the stories in Lem's The Star Diaries (Penguin Modern Classics).The Kindle edition was not good, at least in my tablet. Images could not be zoomed in or out, and neither was the lettering. One can use double tapping for vignette individuation, but since there aren't vignettes in this comic, what one sees is the letters augmented a tiny bit. Despite that, some of the texts are very difficult to read without a magnifying glass.

For a strangely illustrated little comic book, this goes very deep into the meaning of existence. Best read in small bits, so you can stop and think about it for a day or two, then read the next bit. It's surprisingly sweet and well written- in its own obscure language that we can understand. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I think it might even be fun to color.One note: If I had it to do over again, I would get the paper book and not the kindle version. The kindle was very small on my screen and my kindle app didn't work to enlarge the pictures, so if it was too small to read, I had to do a screen shot and then enlarge it in my photo album. It would be better to get the paper book. But you should get it, however you can!

The story centered on the orphan train that traveled west, and 20 years later a friend of Daisy and Daisyâ€™s brother tried to find her. They were fleeing a bounty hunter, and they fell in love. They still hadnâ€™t found a Daisy, yet I feel she might be found in one of the trilogy stories. It was an exciting and romantic story.

I'm giving 4 stars, but it's more like 3 1/2. For the most part I enjoyed this story, but there were some things I didn't like. The most frustrating thing was the fact the author would set off into long passages (as in pages) of narration at the most awkward times... like right after the moment of climax when the hero and heroine finally make love. Could we at least have some afterglow first? Dade's thoughts about the future could have waited until the next morning when they were riding the trail or at least until after they'd settled into each others arms. Another annoying thing was the ending. It was good, but left one very big loose end. One of the main motives for their journey never gets resolved.

Great story, hard to put down, plenty of emotions. Never dull, hard to put down.Highly recommend to everyone. There is something for everyone.

I wish I had know that "A Cowboy Christmas" was related to this book. I would have read that one first. In a Cowboys Arms did stand alone read.. I could tell that there was more to the story. I also either missed another book or maybe it isn't finished yet as there are several parts of this story left out. In this book, Dade is looking for his long lost sister and thinks he has found her when he is introduced to Maggie. You will enjoy their story.

Love the strong sexy cowboys. Enjoyed

Some parts were good but for the most part, I would pass. The romance was luke warm at best and there was a whole storyline just dropped at the end. I have no interest in continuing this series.

I honestly think there are better books out there for this subject matter. This book is seemingly a quick read. The tone of voice is as if youâ€™re having a chat with a friend about the topic over a beer. Thereâ€™s studies and other supporting information behind all of the claims, but it would have been better organized (I think) as a TED talk or research study.

Thoroughly researched and filled with great points. Knocked it one star because, after the first few chapters, it becomes incredibly redundant and it really drags. I could only read about Ford and 3M's same success stories so many times before I became saturated with it and couldn't take another dose. For the last few chapters, I read the first few pages and then went back to the chapter's "Take Away" section and still got everything I wanted out of the book. If an abridged version comes out, look into getting that one instead.

If you have the good to great I feel all info are just copy paste. But was enjoying to read it.

I am pretty sure I ordered a new book. But this one came wet and smells bad.

Part of my rating is for the very existence of this guide. I have never before seen a guide to cruise ports. It is something which should prove handy to a lot of people. I personally hate cruises. I have only been on one, and even though it was the most expensive part of my vacation, jumped ship at the second port. My parents, however, love them. They go on a cruise every few months. I picked this guide up out of curiosity because we accidentally wound up on a cruise boat on-shore program. My family went on a short vacation in Alaska, hastily planned to sneak it in before the beginning of the school year. Unlike most of our trips, this one was planned last minute, with less than the usual amount of research. We were there for just a week and wanted to see Denali (which really requires more than a week). I booked us on a rail trip into Denali park, thinking we would see more than if we were driving, and also enjoy it more. What I didn't know when I booked was that it was a Princess cruise add-on. I learned quite a bit about cruise packages and pricing. They take you to out of the way places and charge a fortune for every activity. It did not make me any more anxious to take a cruise than I had been before, but, it did get us into Denali. We also saw most of the other port cities covered in this guide.I started reading Lonely Planet guides a few years ago when a good friejnd recommended them as better than most for off the beaten path experiences/ ideas. This one, almost by definition, covers well worn paths. Most of the cruise ports are pretty dull; functional ports with a maritime museum and a few tourity restaurants, and a gift shop or several. They can typically bne seen in very little time, and if you want to get to the cultural center, need to book an excursion. This book does help, a bit, at sorting out which are the beter excursions. It looks like we chose wisely.My disappointment with this guide is that we found a few gems, which were not mentioned; a terrific little town at the end of the train line (this was a cruise excursion, and apparently a popular one). There were some surprising and even amazing things in the town (like a casual restaurant which was owned and run by George HW Bush's personal chef). Neither the restaurant nor the town were mentioned. There were several other interesting things we found because of a friend who lives in Anchorage. None of them appeared in this guide. I would have rates it 2 or 3 stars for content, especially compared to their other guides, but gave it an extra star for covering an area not typically covered by guides, cruise ports. I am sure that a lot of people are baffled when confronted with a choice of excursions in towns they have never visited and this guide does help sort them out, which makes it better in this particular area, than most travel guides.

Lonely Planet guides can be hit or miss for me--this is one that I really like a lot. I was interested right away in the cruise ship angle (1) because you don't see books aimed at Alaska cruises and (2) because a family member (whose been on a cruise there before) and I have been planning a cruise and I've never been. This book was a definite hit.Like any good travel book, this has a lot of information and is well organized. It also is very visually attractive with photos and color on every page. The text is small, but readable, something I haven't been able to say lately about many other travel guides. I like the inclusion of three fold-out maps with overviews of: (1) all the ports covered so you can see their relationship along the coast; (2) Seattle, with an overview of key locations and their proximity to each other; and (3) Vancouver, with the same. There are also maps throughout of the port cities--overviews of the key locations discussed and more detailed ones with the main streets. They are colorful and easy to follow.It took me a little time to understand this book. It is a travel guide to Alaska, based on a travel route through port cities. You do not need to be on a cruise ship to find it useful, if you were an independent traveler (it doesn't list hotels, but does have restaurants, shopping, "things to do/see", and transportation information in every section, as well as the history and important features of each port city or town. The point is, however, that most people -will- be visiting these places from a cruise ship. (They point that at $120 dollars or so a day, cruising Alaska can be very economical, given the local cost of hotels and, especially, of restaurants.) Most of the cruise information is at the beginning of the book, with small notes about relevant details (Princess and Holland America, for example, run their own hotels in Denali so you can add a land package without wondering where you will stay).They also included things I appreciated about each cruise line--size, likely passenger profile, what makes it different. They included the environmental impact of cruise ships--a big consideration--and I was interested to learn that Friends of the Earth evaluates each line for their environmentalism (Disney, of the big ships, got the best rating.) They list websites (I've enjoyed going through cruise critic.com where people get specific down to the cabin assignment they prefer).It starts with an overview: "Top 10 Things to See in Alaska", then what you "Need to Know" which has good info about timing, the costs of being in port depending of your budget and what you want to do, and hidden charges for cruises. I really like how they talk about transportation and tour options from the port so you don't have to rely on paying the cruise for all your shore packages. It can save a lot of money to arrange it from the port, and often you can book ahead. They list the cruise lines, including the small ones.Most of the guide is the information you'd want to know about each city or town regardless of how you arrived there. That makes up the vast majority of the guide. Just when you've reached Anchorage, then Denali, and think you're done, there's another main section on Alaska "In Focus" with "today", "history", culture, landscape, wildlife, etc. and adventure activities in general with costs. Don't miss the "Survival Guide" at the end with an overview of practical things to know. At the very end on page 290 is the "Symbols and Map Key" for the maps in the book. (kind of odd placement, but useful once you know it's there.) All in all, an informative guide that we found very helpful for planning.

Bonfire of the Vanities has made me a Tom Wolfe fan. It paints a truthful picture of late 20th Century morality. There are no heroes in this book. The egos and dark flaws of its characters are on display for the world to read. Who knows? You might find a bit of yourself in this classic. I don't consider myself a student of literature, but I'd be surprised if this book wasn't required reading for literature majors, or perhaps social studies and first year law students . It's a great read.

After seeing the movie numerous times, I thought it was time to finally read the book. Although sometimes the language can be colorful and literary, overall I could not put it down, and finished it in just a few days.

After 30 years it still resonates -- kind of sad really. Excellent read, for "readers," not for those who like snippet type reading. Only beef. Why of all possible endings did he choose this one?! Very unsatisfying after a substantial commitment to the story. Feels like he rushed the ending.

Wolfe is a genius of unmasking our oh-so-carefully constructed fictious lives. Bonfire of the Vanities, so aptly named, scorches the network of lies, deceit, and hubris that we dare to call "society." The under belly Wolfe exposes runs the gambit from the justice-free judicial system to corrupt civil rights activists, and the hipocracy of upper middle class elitism. A devastating, yet entertaining novel that will wake you from your smug confidence that "all is right with the world."

Written in his inimitable droll style Tom Wolfe in this novel pits the mores of the haves of the right upper Manhattan addresses against those of the have nots of the Bronx, all manipulated by the power structure of the over burdened judicial system as it seeks to maintain some sense of order, while pointing out the sort of corruption that can thrive in each segment of society.

This book is about the Mercury Project, NASAâ€™s first manned space missions, and the origins of the astronaut program.Tom Wolfe was a practitioner of â€œNew Journalism.â€ The only previous experience that I had with that style was with Hunter S. Thompsonâ€™s alcohol-and-other-drugs-fueled escapades in Las Vegas while covering a race for Sports Illustrated and his alcohol-fueled experiences at the Kentucky Derby. Based on those reading experiences, it was my understanding that one of the hallmarks of New Journalism was Journalist-as-Participant. The historical record, however, is pretty clear that a drunk Tom Wolfe had not, in fact, been blasted into orbit with John Glenn or any of the other Mercury 7 astronauts. How then is The Right Stuff an example New Journalism?Well, Tom Wolfe wrote his butt off. The book reads more â€œliteraryâ€ than as an object of traditional journalism. Let me explainâ€¦no, there is too muchâ€¦let me sum upâ€¦A traditional journalistic or scholarly book about the early astronauts and â€œwhat made them tickâ€ might include quotations from interviews with those astronauts and people that knew them, government officials and news reporters from the time, and maybe a few academics to provide some Authoritative Interpretation. The writer wouldnâ€™t put forth a theory of their own about the astronaut motivations, or, if they did, thereâ€™d be a ton of explicit sources backing them up.Tom Wolfe just puts his theories out there, front and center, and then writes with such force â€“ with repeated interjections, sometimes with exclamations! â€“ and capitalizations and callbacks and pretty descriptions and literary techniques that the reader will forget that they are reading some nonfiction book; this story may be (at least in some sense) true, but it reads like a novel. It never really dives into the minutiae of bureaucratic organization nor is it really interested in any oneâ€™s point of view other than that which drives the authorâ€™s central point: the astronauts were military test pilots fueled by a Manly Competitive Desire to BE THE BEST and that performing well under pressure in that competition exhibits The Right Stuff (which is never explicitly defined, although I have my own theories).I am a fan of David Foster Wallaceâ€™s writing, and I could see a clear influence from Tom Wolfeâ€™s style in Wallaceâ€™s writing. And David Foster Wallace was certainly not the only literary writer influenced by Wolfe. Fans of literature really should check this out, just to trace back certain styles to their creator (or popularizer). Science fiction fans could be inspired by a (more or less) true account of fighter pilot personality and how their influence (or lack thereof) could impact a fictional space program. Fans of nonfiction could see that there are ways of telling a nonfiction story rather than the usual, traditional methodologies. Iâ€™d recommend this book to anyone, just with the disclaimer that it is NOT like the usual biographical or documentary-style rendition of the Mercury Project. The writerâ€™s style is definitely noticeable, and some might be distracted by it (or it could just not be to their taste).

The Right Stuff is the story of 7 men chosen for the Mercury space program and also about the life of Chuck Yeager, a very talented test pilot. Most of the story takes place from the late 50's when the U.S. was in a race with Russia to reach outer space. There was a lot of pressure on the U.S. because Russia had already sent out the first manned space flight. Personally I liked the story a lot, it was very interesting, but I feel like the story spent a lot of time around things that were not important to the progression of the story. Examples of this is when they are all sitting around at their hangout, not really doing anything. The characters were very interesting though, at first they were kind of low down and rowdy, but as the story progresses they end up much more mature and helpful to each other. I learned a lot from this book, such as: Who broke the sound barrier first, who the first to go into space were, and how they all got there. I would recommend this book to those who are looking for an interesting story about the advancement of our current technology.

Tom Wolfeâ€™s account of the test pilot program in the time of Chuck Yeager and the Mercury astronauts is a fascinating look back at a special time in American history. His sardonic take on many details had me laughing, and his genuine love and admiration for the men involved comes shining through in his writing. A line from the end probably sums it up best: â€œbut the day when an astronaut could parade up Broadway while traffic policemen wept in the intersections was no more."This was the story of that time.

Dang, I love this book.This is erotica FOR WOMEN!!!! The story is great and well-plotted and it's verrrrry sexy.I read this when I was in eighth grade (oh, thank you, local library used book sale!) - THIS IS NOT A YOUNG ADULT NOVEL!!! - and I've never forgotten Beverly's journey. She goes through a lot of crap, meets people who exploit her and people who support her. And man, does she RISE.This is not a romance novel in the classic sense. There's no white knight and Bev is no damsel in distress. This is a romance for modern women - about a woman in love with her life, her strengths, and her sexuality.It may not be in the pantheon of great feminist texts but Butterfly showed me what healthy sexuality looks like (and what unhealthy sexual relations look like, too). That's invaluable for any woman.

A wonderful read! Total female empowerment. Think of a group of 4 women that have been used, abused, and cast aside by men in their lifetime and sexually unsatisfied everytime to boot. These four women become successful business women and they open up a little business... catering to the fantasies of women. Lots of successful women show up at Butterfly to pay for and recieve what they do not get at home. I found it to be a very original idea and enjoyed reading about women that shun traditional society and just get what they want, even if they have to pay for it. The only thing I found trashy (I have seen that word used in many reviews about this novel) was Trudie's sleeping around with a new guy just about everynight (outside of Butterfly). I also thought Beverly's revenge, though justified, was a bit elaborate. I think cutting off Danny's family jewels and shoving them down his throat would have been just as satisfying and much more cost effective. Danny is the current television evangelist that years before ruined Beverly's young life by throwing her into a world of prostitution at the tender age of 14. I also found I enjoyed reading about young Beverly more than older Beverly. Felt like she lost her personality and character in the more "modern" parts of the book.

I read the paperbook on a cruise in 1994. I was not much for reading because I could never find anything I liked. A youngman in the book store recommended this book to me and I enjoyed it then. I let a few people borrow the book and never got it back. I tried to 3 years to order the book so I could read it again, but it was out of publication, but I couldn't get it out of my mind!I recently bought myself a Kindle and just by chance decided to see if I could find it. OMG, it was there. I could not put my Kindle down. I read on my breaks and at lunch. I would wake up thinking about reading this book. Kathryn Harvey had me from page one! The book was full of pain, heartache, sex, violence, and shear revenge. You feel like you are in the room with these characters! Rachel Dwyer is my "Hero". I want to shake her hand and give her a hug and a high five!OMG! You will not regret reading this book!OMG!I am looking forward to reading more from this author!

I should start off by mentioning that I'm a fantasy and science fiction sort of person. With few exceptions (such as To Kill a Mockingbird), not much else gets my attention, and Butterfly was not a novel I would have picked for myself. However, my wife being dyslexic, asked me to read it to her. That was about 6 years ago, and about halfway through, we got disorganized and I never finished. But it was on my mind ever since: how did that novel end? I ran across it on Amazon, and ordered a copy for, as I thought, my wife. However, it turned out that she already finished it on her own. Alas! But not a problem, I really wanted to get to that ending on my own. It's one of those books hard to put down.Butterfly is a revenge story, yes, but it's placed in a radical feminist context. Danny is the principle antagonist, but he is only epresentative of an overallpatriarchal system that is hostile and subjegating toward women. The theme arises over and over, involving, to varying degrees, nearly every female character in the book. Also woven throughout the pages are the radical feminist themes of sexual segregation and sexual liberation, presented in what I consider the proper manner of denouncing the patriarchal system without denouncing individual men. The fates of the individual women reflect just as individually on how a male-dominated society has impacted them. Also interesting is the concept of power, how Danny sees it as coming from control and the Beverly, the protagonist, exceeds him by acquiring it through cooperation.The characters seem real in both motive and reaction. There are two elements of a plot that I adore: interweaving several subplots so that they come together seamlessly at the end, and sudden twists and turns. This novel has both. It is compelling and absorbing.** POSSIBLE SPOILER **The ending is resolved completely and deeply satisfying.My wife, though she did finish it years ago, plans to read it again. I don't blame her. I surely will someday myself. This is one of those books that stand out.

I don't think I've ever had a pulp novel make me angry, thrilled, sympathetic, empathetic, disgusted, horrified, and turned on like this one has. I don't know what it is about this book, but the story sticks with you. Though fantastical in nature, a lot of the gritty plot twists delve behind the masks women wear, confront perception with reality, and elicit raw emotion for characters who seem to reach off the page, dig fingers in your belly, and twist.
