#232,488 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This is the fourth book in Cate Cameron's Corrigan Falls Raiders series, but they can all be read out of order. I mean you will kinda of know who ends up with who if you start with this one, but I don't think it takes away from the other books if you decided to pick this one up first. I've really been enjoying this series, but I have to admit this one was my least favorite of the four of them. Our protagonist Dawn will be familiar to readers of the series because she used to date Toby Cooper, but she is so done with being the hockey girlfriend. Until she meets Logan, who's hockey career is pretty much over. Dawn was a character that I just couldn't get into. On the one hand, I understood why she didn't want to be the "hockey girlfriend" anymore, but on the other hand she had zero reasons to not want to end up with Logan. I was just thinking, "who cares? You two like each other!" I found her just a really frustrating character to read about. The stuff with her family was interesting, but it felt like it was kind of glossed over and is just in the background.I really felt for Logan in this book, I have no idea what is must be like to train and scrap to get your spot in the NHL and then it all be over after one hit. This is probably why I am very stressed whenever my favorite Flyers rookies take bad hits on the ice. I love watching them play so much, I don't want them to have to deal with what Logan has to deal with at such a young age. (Looking at you Eric Wellwood 😢). I really could understand Logan's struggles a lot, so when he gets good news in the end of the book, I was really happy for him, but the way Dawn acts about it rubbed me the wrong way.If you are looking for a book with a happy ending, never fear, like the rest of this series things work out in the end. Which is the type of romance books I am interested in! I'm not sure if Cameron is going to write anymore in this series, it kind of feels like at this point it is done, but I've really enjoyed the series so far.

when logan balanchuk shows up in corrigan falls he believes a knee injury has destroyed his chance for a career in the nhl. when he meets dawn, a hockey hating local girl who plans to move out of town first chance she gets, he's drawn to her. and part of the appeal is that she isn't hockey mad. but she's also fun and sexy and real. being with her makes him forget his disappointments.because dawn wants something more for herself. she's constantly challenging herself to try new things. leaving behind a steady summer job for one that will teach her something new every day. this appeals to logan because he is also figuring himself out. at first the disappointment of losing hockey keeps him away from the sport. but he's volunteering as the golf instructor at a local hockey camp, and it's only a matter of time before he gets sucked back in again.what he learns is that hockey is a fundamental part of who he is. and dawn isn't sure how she feels about that. she already did the hockey girlfriend thing once, and it felt like all things hockey consumed her then and she wants something more for herself.but she also wants logan. because he is sweet and funny and the way he loves her feels so right. and logan knows that dawn is who he wants with him as he figures out where hockey will end up in his life. and the connection between dawn and logan is so strong you know that they will work it all out. hockey doesn't have to be the thing that kills their relationship. and how they commit to being together is so perfect. i pretty much loved everything about breakaway.**breakaway will publish on august 14, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (crush) in exchange for my honest review.

Another fabulous book by Cate Cameron. I'm loving this series. It's original and fun.Dawn is trying to escape Hockey. She lives in a town which sleeps, breathes, and suffocates you with Hockey. After breaking up with her hockey loving ex-boyfriend, Dawn wants to try, and avoid the sport. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done.Logan is new in town. He is also trying to escape his life. After an injury, he has had to find a new way to live. His dad has helped by enrolling him to help out at a sports camp. Just like Dawn, he is trying to avoid all things related to Hockey. She is a breath of fresh air, and Logan cannot get enough of her. Logan may be avoiding Hockey and teaching golf, but that doesn't mean it won't catch up with him. Golf is where his summer romance is, and she helps him forget his troubles. Will Dawn be understanding or will she run when she finds out who he really is?I loved this book just like the others I have read in the series. I've added Centre Ice to my read list, as I know it will be good, and I haven't read it yet. These books briefly feature the characters from the other books, however, they do not need to be read in order. They are all standalone stories.Dawn is fun and loveable. She wants to stand on her own two feet, she is ambitious and wants to be independent. This is basically my favourite kind of female lead in books.Logan is sweet, fun, and the perfect summer boyfriend. Hopefully, he can be so much more.5 stars out of 5.I received an ARC in exchange for a fair review.

Review

'Dusikova's pictures are full of soft edges and soft colours, with pretty architectual details and an assortment of castle denizens, including a pair of cats and a toddler in a jester's motley. A rendering to bring a smile or possibly a giggle.'– Kirkus Reviews 'Beautifully illustrated, in a gentle and eye-catching style. It is told simply, yet brings the story to life in new ways... Children will enjoy putting their own words to this story and will be empowered to do so, even if they cannot read, by such humorous, soft and detailed pictures.'– Early Years Educator 'This is a wonderful version of the well-known tale, illustrated with charm and humour, with images that feel expansive and expressive in their detail.'– Juno Magazine 'This version of The Princess and the Pea... has everything, absolutely everything you could wish for... The well-known story is told eloquently and magically, with no post modern twists, just classical elegance. But it is Maja Dusikova's illustrations which make this a book sing. Beautiful, graceful, delicate, detailed, soft and luxurious, Dusikova's illustrations have tip-top fairy tale quality... An utterly delightful book, I don't know of any more charming version of this tale, traditionally told.'– Playing By The Book

It is similar to the story I knew as a child, but doesn't seem as well told, not enough detail. It will not be one of my favorite Hans Christian Andersen books, although the illustrations are nice.

Bought this for my grandchildren. A cute little story.

Illustrations are great - very very colorful and cheery. Great for young children because not wordy. It just tells the story so that little ones don't get bored with too many words.

This is a Glorious, Beautiful Book for my Granddaughter. I know she loved it so. Thankyou Amazon. I don't know what I would do without you. Carol Howard

Love the pictures. My favorite childhood story and now I love sharing it with my grandchildren.

This is a cute story and original, there are other versions of this out there. Makes for a good read and its a hard cover too.

This book is exactly what I had hoped for. The illustrations are lovely and the book is not too long for a young child.

Gorgeously illustrated and fabulous story.

Golf Annika's Way: How I Elevated My Game to Be the Best-- and How You Can Too, by Annika Sorenstam

From Booklist

Its title echoing the enduring how-to guide Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus (1974), this instructional from Sorenstam is technically orthodox. Perhaps its prime attraction, besides the author's fame and telegenic smile, will be Sorenstam's allusions to deficiencies in her swing that she remedied en route to becoming professional golf's top female player of the past decade. She reports that in early days on tour she was unable to drive the ball far, three-putted too often, and was nervous about bunker shots. Her solutions to these common problems were to delay the uncocking of the wrists on the downswing; putt to the high side of the cup; and in the bunker, assess the lie and set up correctly--all standard-issue counsel. But if it works for Annika, why not for me, thinks the ever-optimistic weekend player, and Sorenstam's I'm-like-you attitude infuses an entirely friendly and comprehensible presentation of how to play golf. Photographic presentations of Sorenstam practicing exercising combine with asides about her personal life to create a popular golf book-- guaranteed. This is an excellent golf lesson book and I love it. It is also Annika Sorenstam's short autobiography. It introduced how she played golf and why she won LPGA tournaments so many times to golf beginners and experienced golfers as well. Compared with Jack Nicklaus's or Tom Watson's lesson books, this book is at least "par" and maybe "birdie". Her explanations about how to swing and how to handle all golf clubs are natural and pleasant. They are valuable, too. I am a man, and her lessons transcend gender. I learned from her something that I didn't learn from male golfers in the same way as she said that she learned a lot from male golfers. This Swedish woman is a true achiever and can become your good friend. Buy this book and keep it near you. It will improve your golf game, I guarantee.

This book was absolutely amazing! It is extremely helpful with all parts of the game and the golf swing technique. I got this book as a gift and it was perfect because if you want the best advice, why not get it from the best.... Annika. Annika keeps it very informative and educational, yet simple, and yet very easy to follow and effective. It has already helped me improve just in a few weeks I have seen a big difference. In addition it was really fun to read about Annika and her golf and life experiences and her mental approach to the game. She was such a great player and extremely driven and focused and willing to sacrifice and worked her rear end off to be her best. But she also seems like such a great person. Just a very nice, fun, laid back, down to earth, good sense of humor type of person. Really enjoyed this book!

Positive, well illustrated book. A lot of excellent info. I checked it out at the local library, but we refer to it so much that I bought it on Amazon. Originally checked it out for my daughter, but I read it, too. Golf isn't a separate men or women specific sport. Annika has instruction, drills and tips that wil help anyone. There is a little autobiography in the beginning of the book. My daughter, who knew very little about Annika before, has become a fan after reading her story. This section lends credibility to her teachings from my young daughters viewpoint.I have a huge library of golf literature and dvd instruction, and this book is one of my top three favorites. Annika is one of the best golfers of all time, but she is humble and practical in her teaching apporoach.

Came in on time, looked like it was brand new. I gave it as a gift to a girl named annika who plays golf and she loved it.

I was looking for god golf instruction and this is more of a biography. The instructional parts are pretty basic.

I feel this is excellent book really gives u idea how to work on ur game

like new condition. happy with purchase

I am a senior male golfer and found this book to be much more informative than those written for guys that can pound out the ball 300 yards. I still have not mastered Annika's ability to move her eyes to follow the ball after contact.

Isaac Asimov’s “Prelude to Foundation”, the first prequel to the author’s classic “Foundation Trilogy”, is a modest but enjoyable science-fiction novel, showing the humble beginnings of Hari Seldon, the legendary scientist of the original trilogy. The novel will probably resonate more if you’re already familiar with the trilogy, as you’ll likely get more of a kick out of the young, slightly vain, slightly scatterbrained Seldon seen here if you’re well versed on his later accomplishments and eventual revered status. But there are some compelling ideas here for both Foundation newcomers and longtime fans of the original books, often presented in fun ways. In particular, the novel examines the idea of personal cluelessness about one’s genius, and how it sometimes takes others to fill a person in about one's own potential. Here, Hari is presented as someone who thinks he’s just a modest mathematician, with maybe a few creative ideas worthy of writing an esoteric paper on, but nothing more. But once Hari delivers his paper at a conference, the most powerful six or seven forces in the universal hierarchy immediately wrestle and compete with each other to grab up Hari and his ideas first, recognizing their potential to shape the future. And even then Hari is slow to say, “Hmmmm, maybe I’ve got something here.”“Prelude to Foundation” is pretty much a chase novel set in a fascinating, far flung future, with a nice level of attention given over to the ways people live and interact, and other humanitarian concerns. Dr.Asimov also uses “Prelude to Foundation” to tie some of his other famous books into the continuity of the Foundation books, specifically novels in his “Empire” and “Robot” series. At this point, that move neither overly complicates nor greatly improves the Foundation series, though it does add a bit of interesting texture, so it’ll be fascinating to see where things go in the other Foundation prequel/sequels.If you’re interested, here are the seven books in the Foundation series, presented in chronological order of the events they depict: “Prelude to Foundation” (the first prequel to the original trilogy), “Forward the Foundation” (second prequel to the original trilogy); “Foundation” (book one of the original trilogy); “Foundation and Empire” (book two of the original trilogy); “Second Foundation” (book three of the original trilogy); “Foundation’s Edge” (first sequel to the original trilogy); and “Foundation and Earth” (second and final sequel to the original trilogy). Finally, you should know that HBO is now developing the Foundation books as an ongoing television series, hence my renewed interest in the original trilogy (which I once read way back when) and the prequels/sequels (which are new to me). Personally, I think it’ll be fun to shoot through all seven books prior to the premiere of the show.

That the foundation series is one that has lasted a long, long time is something that has been my personal experience. I first read it in 1953 and have been an ardent follower of Asimov ever since. There is a depth of spirit that flows through all his science fiction that has inspired me and many others through all the many years. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for fun, inspiration, hard science fiction and just plain good reading and adventure. I would rate these books as five plus plus stars!

This novel has a subtle beginning. I would take a little to time reading the beginning to absorb Asimov's setting and style here. The science of psychohistory that laid out the Foundation had to start somewhere, and this is where it starts and with Hari Seldon. So there's a lot written of Seldon's early life and a lot about different sections of the Galactic Empire capital planet of Trantor. Seldon is not represented as some sort of superman, but if you've read other books in the Foundation series, as someone to admire, and is seen as a person outside of just psychohistory. Sort of like seeing the famous photograph of Albert Einstein riding a bicycle. And as others in the Empire see the potential power of psychohistory, even before Seldon does, thus begins the race to harness that power. The joy, and the point, in reading this novel is in the knowing the eventual power of psychohistory and thus how it develops. Seldon has to be persuaded to progress his theory of psychohistory by the other interesting characters in the novel. Can you imagine, early in the 20th century, having to go "come on Albert, will you at least *try* to develop the theory of General Relativity".There are two type of readers that would be potentially interested in reading this book for the first time: those that have read the traditional Foundation series and are wondering if they should continue here with this prequel, and those that haven't read the originals and are wondering if they should start here. For the former, sure with the understanding that Asimov's style will be different 40 years after he wrote the novellas of the original series, and for the former, no, I would start with Asimov's original Foundation trilogy. His original series is almost essential 40's/50's science fiction, and if one doesn't like that series, one is not going to care about the characters and events in Prelude To Foundation. From the Author's Note and adding Forward The Foundation which was written afterwards (I may have left out a book or two), there are 15 books (a quint-decology?) in Asimov's universe. They are:1. The Complete Robot (includes every story of I, Robot)2. The Caves of Steel3. The Naked Sun4. The Robots of Dawn5. Robots and Empire6. The Currents of Space7. The Stars, Like Dust--8. Pebble in the Sky9. Prelude to Foundation10. Forward the Foundation11. Foundation12. Foundation and Empire13. Second Foundation14. Foundation's Edge15. Foundation and EarthBooks 1 to 5 are Asimov's Robot series, books 6-8 his Empire series, and books 9 to 15 his complete Foundation series. They were initially separate series, but he used books 5, 9, and 10 to encompass them all into one series.

This is science fiction the way it should be. It’s not a cops & robbers shoot ‘em up, nor does it have magical/mythical beasts popping out of the woodwork. Rather, it posits a society in some far-off future, and then sets forth the ground rules by which that society functions. Then, when things begin to go awry, slight changes can be introduced in the form of math prof, Hari Sheldon, his brain child-psychohistory, and a new society with different ground rules whose aim is to develop human culture toward a better goal. A book like this enables us to take a look at our present world, imagine some changes, and then ask the fundamental question of science fiction: What If?

Before writing this short review, I must say that for me the Foundation series will always be the Foundation trilogy--the three original novels. In these the later novels by Asimov, he attempted to connect his Trantor, including the Foundation series, to his robots series, which originally included two novels and several short stories. In my opinion, that was a clumsy attempt, not worthy of Asimov. That being said, Prelude to Foundation is the best of those later novels. I have just reread it, and found it a worthwhile read, although not in the league of the original Foundation trilogy.
