Very engaging. Gives me alot of insight about the Pureland

A wonderful book about Pure Land buddhism written by the great Dharma Master Yong Hua.

This is a real gem to those who want to learn and understand BuddhismI have been practicing chan meditation under dharma master Yong hua for a few years now and it has helped me being a better person and transformed the most difficult parts in my life. He teaches his students but asks nothing in return. I think its important that the writer writes with wisdom, not knowledge from other people's words. When a writer has wisdom to write this type of book, it provides more authentic and clear answers to the readers. And it won't spread delusion.

This short book provides an introduction to the Pure Land Dharma door for complete beginners. Indeed I was a complete beginner when I read it and as such found its very simple and straight forward approach very accessible.What I particularly liked about this book was that Master Yong Hua is totally uncompromising in rejecting modernist interpretations of Amitabha as a "metaphor" completely devoid of objective reality. This is not to say that the Master does not express a nuanced understanding or grasp of Mahayana metaphysics. He clearly does (this particularly clear in the books back matter). However, he deftly avoids getting bogged down in excessively elaborate formulations which may confuse or lose some seekers.Indeed, any later study into the metaphysical principles of Buddhism is predicated on accepting the transcendent and supranatural in Buddhism. Master Yong Hua emphasizes the concrete and true nature of Amitabha as a transcendent being. He refuses to submit to Western distortions of the Dharma and, as already stated, this is invaluable in my view.A note of caution however. For Western readers coming from a materialistic background, some of the statements in this book may seem fantastical and even superstitious. Indeed, they did to me when I first read this. However, I would encourage such readers to approach the text with an open mind. If it is helpful to such readers to initially take such statements as metaphorical, then so be it.A final word for readers, this book approach Pure Land from the mixed Chan/Pure Land School which predominates in the East Asian mainland, as opposed to the exclusive Pure Land associated with the followers of the Shandao-Honen line of patriarchs. As such, this book should be viewed as a companion piece to Master Yong Hua's "Chan Handbook". I would encourage those interested to read them in combination.Namo Amituofo🙏

Soft cover book drug handbook made for physician's? I think not. I'm a nurse and no doctor would look through this book for drug info. It's too difficult to find out the info you need, it is not easily indexed. Once you find it though it's very good and it has most drugs you would need to find on a Med-Surg unit. Please format it better for easy use!!

The ambulance service I work for keeps this particular guide on board all its 'rigs.' Granted, referencing information takes a bit of practice. That aside, it's been invaluable to me as a paramedic. In particular the segments on overdose symptoms & treatment thereof. It's also come in handy when patients list prescriptions with which I'm not completely familiar. I've read a lot of war books. Lots of fiction, lots of non-fiction. I picked this up on my Vine account after having it in my cart for some time.I'm confused a bit, cause it says it's fiction, but it seems, through reading it, that it's all true. Perhaps that's part of the lore of this book, I'm not sure.I'm not sure what I can say that others haven't already, but I'm not going to say it was the best war book, let alone book - period - that I've ever read. Sure, it's good. No doubt. But better than most I've read? Um. No. I liked it. I finished it.I liked a few of the stories a lot. Oh, that's what the book is - a collection of stories. Some are connected. Some aren't. Some crop up in later ones with no mention in between. The book is different that way. I liked that. It's not simply straight-forward writing. As much as I read, I really like that. I read 3-5 books a week. Different is good.Still, even tho the writing is above average, the structure of the book different-good and the stories themselves interesting... I don't know. I've liked other books about war a lot more. Could be (honestly) that as I grow older, I like war less. War books, I mean. I know my views are changing, have changed. Still.Read it. See what you think. It's short, so it won't take long.

It’s called a novel, but it reads like a collection of war stories and essays about being an American soldier in the Vietnam War. That’s not a criticism. In fact, it’s part of the brilliance of this book. If it were thoroughly plotted, it might not feel so authentic. As war is disjointed, so is O’Brien’s book. Some of the chapters are tiny and some are lengthy. Some read more like essays than fiction, and others are clearly fictitious.When I say that “some are clearly fictitious,” there’s always a doubt that it might just be a true story--because war is just that absurd. An example that springs to mind is one of the most engaging pieces in the work. It’s called “Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong,” and it’s about a wholesome, young girlfriend to one of the soldiers who [improbably] comes to live in the camp. The girl acclimates to the war, and soon she is going out on patrol--not with the ordinary infantry soldiers, but during the night with the Green Berets. Perhaps the moral is that some people are made for war, and it’s never who you’d suspect. As I describe it, the premise may sound ridiculous, but the way O’Brien presents it as a story told by a Rat Kiley--a fellow infantryman known to exaggerate—it feels as though there is something very true, no matter how fictitious the story might be. Before one reads “Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong” one has been primed by a chapter entitled “How to Tell a True War Story,” which tells one that truth and falsehood aren’t so clear in the bizarre world of war.There are a couple chapters outside the period during which O’Brien (the character, who may or may not be the same as the author) is actively in an infantry unit. One early chapter describes his near attempt at draft dodging, and another talks of his time stationed at the rear after being injured. Both of these chapters offer an interesting twist in the scheme of the book overall. We find O’Brien to be a fairly typical infantry soldier, and it seems hard to reconcile this with his floating in a canoe and narrowly deciding not to make a swim for the Canadian shoreline. However, what is odder still is realizing how distraught he is to be pulled out of his unit, particularly when he realizes that he has become an outsider and the [then rookie] medic who botched his treatment is now in the in-group. This is one of the many unusual aspects of combatant psychology that comes into play in the book, along with O’Brien’s description of how devastating it was to kill.There are 21 chapters to the book. As I said, they run a gamut, but at all times keep one reading. It’s the shortest of the Vietnam novels I’ve read—I think. When I think of works like “Matterhorn” and “The 13th Valley,” there seems to be something hard to convey concisely about the Vietnam War, but O’Brien nails it with his unconventional novel. O’Brien also uses repetition masterfully. This can be seen in the title chapter “The Things They Carried,” which describes the many things carried by an infantry soldier—both the physical items they carried on patrol and the psychological and emotional things they carried after the war. It’s a risky approach that pays off well.I’d recommend this book for anyone—at least anyone who can stomach war stories.

This book just grabs you and won't let go. When you're finished with it it won't be finished with you. I was in the Air Force during the war - C141 cargo transport. I was never stationed in Vietnam but flying in and out several times a month. In with things needed to fight a war. Everything from soldiers to mop buckets. Out with the results. Air Evacs full of wounded, or cargo of 140 coffins filled with human remains. First book I've read in years that I didn't want to put down, but I was glad when it emded.

I bought this book for my English class. The story I had to read for my assignment was called "The Things They Carried", and after reading that one story, I had to read the rest. I wasn't expecting the emotional responses I had to each story. I felt as if I was there experiencing Vietnam with these soldiers. This is a realistic and very well written book.

This book has something that other books don't. The writing, the people, the words, the lack of words, a comma here or a period there. Every page is so magnificently done with a finesse of heartache, dark comedy, and raw, pure, genuineness that I've never experienced in any film or text. It's addicting yet painful to read which makes the experienced of reading it all the more powerful.This book has something that other books don't.

This book is amazing! I do not read war stories. For the most part I only read epic or space fiction books. Anyhow Tim O'Brien and his amazing way to write totally changed that. If you want normal length chapters, with normal flow of ideas and a organized story structure, do not read this book. If you are ready to get your head spinning with one sentence paragraphs and stories that jump all over the place and even repeat or contradict themselves, go for it, it is totally worth it.You will either love it, or hate it. I believe there is not in between with this book

This is an overhaul manual? I could have sworn it read like the Sunday comics with its pictures and captions. There is hardly enough beef in this book to help anyone rebuild an engine. Maybe if you had a NASCAR crew chief with 30 years of experience on your side you'd be able to rebuild an engine with this guide, but otherwise it's useless. At least I borrowed the book from a library and didn't waste my money. There's not enough detail, not enough clarity, and the instructions are vague. It spends like the first 5 chapters discussing how to use a micrometer and know how to build your own workbench. If I wanted to build a garage - I'll get my dad to help or a Bob Vila book, thank you very much.

I keep it in my gloves compartment, because the classic i bought didn`t come with a manual, so i use this as a substitute manual.

This book has great illustrations and references. Don't expect to buy any book and instantly be able to fix your car without any mechanical knowledge. I have a degree in mechanics and I found this book to be very helpful while rebuilding my classis mustang. The wiring schematics could be much better, but those can be found online. Torque specs/sequences and general specs are listed and easy to find. Overall a great book.

Covers to many years thus lacks detail. I bought the 3 cds for my 67 that are the factory reprints.

Appears to be somewhat generic. Not very specific for individual models or engines. It will be helpful.

unfortunately some of these cozy mysteries think it is a good idea to kill off a key character, one that is loved or one that has the possibility of being such a loving part of the main character's life - as in this series.. This character was a chance for the main character to enjoy life. This is so opposite of the general 'good feeling' this books can portray. Sure a parent my have died or someone fairly close but not such a character as this. Take a lesson from Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and some other classic writers who were able to incorporate drama into their plots without this.

If you like cozy mystery series where you get to know the main characters who appear in every book, this is an enjoyable series to read. The plots are intriguing enough to keep it interesting, but the books are short enough to finish in a few days. It is recommended that you read the series starting with the first book, although each of the books has a self-contained plot.

I love the Booktown series. It is so well-written and totally believable characters. I love that the characters are so well developed and so human. Each and everyone is noble and not so noble at the same time. It transports you to a place where you can just engulf yourself in Tricia's world. I love New England and every time I read this series,I feel like I'm there. This is a twist and turn must read.

I really like the relationships between some of the main characters and find myself rooting for them in there exciting endeavors. As I was reading each book I couldn't wait to pick up the next and got through all 8 in a very short time. The story could easily have ended after the 8th book and i was ready to begin another series.so I was pleasantly surprised when the kindle said there's another (#9) being released! I can't wait to start reading!

For anyone who loves cozy mysteries, this series is for you. Tricia is a good wholesome heroine, the supporting characters are believable and the plot will keep you guessing to the very end.

well-written book. Lorna Barrett is a favorite of mine so it's hard to be objective - but I do believe her books are of good reading quality and I enjoy every minute I spend in reading her. Good plot, great characters and a worthy purchase.
