I loved this book, as did my three year old. As I am currently pregnant with my second child, we were looking for familiar characters that could help us introduce the concept of a newborn to my daughter. We were also hoping the whole, "baby being born" process would be covered. Both of these things were.Daniel's parents explain they are having a baby, and Daniel helps get the baby's room ready. Then Daniel's parents go to Dr. Anna's so she can help the baby be born while Daniel stays with Grandpere Tiger. All very realistic, but in a kid friendly format. Mr. McFeely comes to tell Daniel and Grandpere Tiger that the baby is here, and then Daniel and Grandpere go to visit Mom and Dad and Dr. Anna's. Daniel takes the baby a present and greatly enjoys meeting his new sister - putting something that might be intimidating to small children in a positive light. It becomes very obvious that the new baby cries a lot and is very needy, something even my three year old now tell me all about. They try feeding, rocking, changing her diaper, and over time even Mom Tiger admits she can't always tell what's wrong. Daniel gets to help soothe the baby, making him very proud of himself.I thought this was a realistic representation of how a new baby changes things in the family, and the process. My daughter has now been through it several times with Daniel, and I hope this makes it less scary for her. There are also two episodes of the show (season 5, episodes 1 and 2 - it's on Prime!) that cover the same material as the book. We have watched these a few times together and talked about them. The next two episodes (season 5, episodes 3 and 4) cover how life is different after baby Margaret is born. We haven't tackled these yet, but will soon.I highly recommend the book, I have found it very helpful in explaining things to my daughter. If you have Prime, I also highly recommend watching the episodes that tie in with the book, as an additional way to reinforce the book material.

How do i interduce the idea of a baby to my pre-k kids. blog after blog talked about acclamation, give them the idea early. only one lady gave me an idea of how to do it.enter "Daniel Tiger season 2" he is getting a little sister. I was thrilled, we watched the episode/'s and talked about it. then I came on here and found this book and this one (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1481431722/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_10)this one is a paper book vs the other being a board book, but they cover different parts of having a sister.beautiful colors, easy to read at bedtime, great for introducing an idea to your kids.

I was having a girl, and trying to help my son prepare emotionally and mentally. So this fit the bill. The whole Daniel Tiger thing is a little weird though - he's a preschooler and sometimes has the emotional maturity of a fifth grader... my MIL was laughing at the absurdity of some of the things in the book... "O the Owl has only seen a baby in a book... Prince Wednesday thinks she is royally little"... it's a basic page-by-page rendition of the episode where Baby Margaret is born and comes home.

Cute book and I'm still excited to give to my neice as a gift at my sister's baby shower, but I doubt it will last much longer than a week. The paper is really thin, low quality. The whole book was more thin than I expected it to be. Keep in mind this book has a soft cover like a magazine. Hopefully she'll [my neice] will get to read it and be excited anyways!(She loves daniel tiger)Update--------->>>>>too long of a book for my 2 year old niece who LOVES daniel tiger. She liked looking at book, but there were lots of confusing words! Maybe more well suited for an older child

This is a cute story that of course follows the Daniel the tiger tv show. When it's time for baby grandparents astay with Daniel and parents go to hospital to have baby. It was good to help my daughter prepare for our sons arrival and just so happens her grandparents stayed with her during our little guys arrival so it matched up nicely, except we were moving right after so we didn't paint and prepare baby's room like they did in the book

I bought this for our then-20 month-old before our next baby was born. She loves Daniel Tiger and this book really helped her understand what was going to happen. Even now that our baby is here, she still likes to read this book.As other reviewers have noted, this is basically the episode as a book. We read the book before watching the t.v. episode and she was excited about making the connection between the book and episode.

We are expecting a baby when my son will be 2 years 4 months old. This book holds his attention, is easy for him to understand, and gets him talking and asking questions and making comments about the story..."baby is crying?" "Mommy and Daddy at the doctor!" I think this book will help him better understand what is happening when the baby comes so its not a huge surprise!Would highly recommend.

Great little story if your kiddo knows and loves Daniel Tiger and you’re expecting a baby. It’s sweet. I saw some bad reviews and almost didn’t but it but it’s perfectly precious. Not a “sturdy book” with super thick pages but absolutely fine and its job of being cute and telling a very simplified story about the transition of a family of three to a family of four.

She furtively imitates the flamingo's moves with utmost concentration and extremely comical poses until it catches on and squawks angrily, driving her away in a sulk. Friendship triumphs in the end, and the unlikely couple dance together and joyously cannonball into water on the last double foldout page. As neither flamingos nor little girls are known for their inherent elegance, the duo's surprisingly graceful moves are reminiscent of dancing hippos and ostriches from Disney's Fantasia. Absolutely adorable book. I had no idea what this book was when I bout it. I just need something flaming. The illustrations are beautiful. The quality of the book is made to last. It will be a treasure in our daughters book collection. We used it as a guest book for our daughters first birthday. It was perfect.

I bought this book purely for the illustrations. They're so sweet. And the quiet story is fun because I can make it up as I go or my daughter can. I'm a little worried that the flip up portions will tear over time, so I think this is a tricky purchase for little ones that don't turn pages easily. And it seems to be a bit young for my 8 year old. So the perfect age is around 5-6 for this book... at least in my house.

Such a fun book. My granddaughter (age three) and I made up our own story as we went from page to page. We got a lot of giggles out of the comments she can up with. She had the stuffed animal "Flora the Flamingo" at home on her bed when I arrived. The book encourages imagination. And with a three-year-old, the imagination and storytelling can be quite hysterical. It certainly brought LOUD giggles to her goodnight book! I will continue to track this author and her books. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. It is certainly an entertaining book and TRULY encourages imagination! She LOVED it!

Love this book! I love receiving books that are beautiful as well as a great story. This is one of our favorites and we also use it as decor in our room when not reading it! Perfect shade of pink

This is such beautiful book, but I do wish the current production run didn’t come with an award seal stuck to the cover. I bought it as a gift for a friend to display in a nursery and the seal ruins the cover art.

Pretty pictures but the entire book is different dance poses and no words. Very repetitive and boring. My 17 month old loves books but loses interest very quickly. I use it as a decoration on a shelf in her room rather than as something that we read together. I would not buy again or ever give as a gift.

The Flora book is always a hit as a gift. I'm a children's librarian and recommend this book frequently. The flaps make it interesting for children and the textless story makes it a great read alone for any age. Children love to do the dance moves with Flora. It's a really charming little book and always goes over well with children and parents. It's also a great "pink" book that really isn't all that gendered. It's just a kid dancing with a flamingo - no princesses or frou frou stuff.

Very cleverly done. There are no words in this book, you make up your own story. However, the story changes every time you "read" it. I gave it 4 stars because the book doesn't last long. The fold out pages are flimsy and tend to rip out.

This is book is fantasmically awesome ... if such a thing were a word. Well-written and goes into so much detail on replacing cooking techniques. I think that helps more than just throwing some recipes at people. The content of this book is so comprehensive and I'm only half-way through the book. I love that the author also goes into considerations for eating out and grocery shopping. She guides in a way that really empowers you to go out and adapt what you've learned and thrive in your neck of the woods with what's available to you...as opposed to just being bogged down by specific recipes. I have also had to go gluten-free and I've found this book so helpful. I'm glad she took the time to mention things that also pertain to soy-free, gluten-free and nut-free diets. I can't sum up my love for this book. Excellent Resource!!!

After living dairy free for a year I typically buy vegan cookbooks for new recipe ideas. Though I was excited about a book specifically about dairy-free meals it turned out to be very different than I expected. As someone who does not feel compelled to hang on for dear life to dairy alternatives (I ditched the vegan "cheeses" months ago) this book wasn't very helpful. I wouldn't consider a recipe for pizza with listed ingredient "add cheese alternative" as a recipe that is useful to me.Are you new to dairy free living? Are you desperate for odd versions of the foods you've been forced to leave behind? Then this might be the book for you. But if you, like me, have been dairy free a while and are looking for new recipes that are healthy, easy, and don't involve dairy I wouldn't recommend this book. Also just for reference, about the first third of the book is the "guide" and research portion presented by the author, with a sizeable chunk of references in the back. There are no pictures in this book except the one on the cover, so it feels a little cluttered and word-heavy. Again, I am not saying this book isn't going to be helpful for some people, but it was not helpful for my situation.

When my husband decided to eliminate gluten from his diet several years ago, I had no idea where to start. He lived, for a long time, with no real bread-type foods because I just didn't know how best to make them. Yes, I looked up ideas on the internet, but we had many recipe failures that way. We LOVE this Go Dairy Free cookbook! It is as if Alisa has written down every possible dietary need that families might have for most of the recipes included in this book. My kids love trying out the recipes and the many variations included. And my husband has had great success creating the gluten free ideas in it as well. It is like Alisa is having a conversation with me, as I navigate new and exciting recipes. Thanks so much for making gluten free so much easier!

Since buying this book, I haven’t gone a day without opening it. For one thing, it is chock-full of amazing allergy-friendly recipes for every meal, snack, or craving (including ones for kids).But what I love most about Go Dairy Free is the vast amount of research and knowledge that was put into it to make it my go-to resource in the kitchen. It’s broken into easy-to-navigate sections, including a comprehensive breakdown of dairy allergies and lactose intolerance. Other sections I find helpful have been Eating Away From Home and a guide to Dairy Substitutes.Definitely a must-have for dairy-free and health-conscious eaters!

This book has been invaluable to me since I went dairy free almost two years ago so I thought it was about time to write a review! It's worth buying for the newly dairy free just to have the information on nutrition and substitutions within easy reach. I love that soy is not used as the end-all for recipes and substitutions. Also many of the recipes are versatile because they're vegetable-, not meat-based, so you can make them vegetarian or simply add meat as suggested. The only thing that prevents this book earning five stars is that the recipes are a bit hit-or-miss. But the recipes that are good, are really good. Chocolate Chip Cookies with Oil (try them with light olive oil and almond yogurt), No Bake Granola Bars, Multi-Purpose Muffins, Veggie Lasagna, Mushroom and Sage Stuffed Bell Peppers, and Powdered "Cheese" Mix are all part of my regular rotation. And the Peanut Butter Truffles, but I try not to make those too often, they're too good ;) Unfortunately the Chocolate Cake was heavy and greasy, and the Almond Buttery Stir Fry and Lentil Curry were just not good. If you're already experienced with dairy-free cooking and are looking for innovative, chef-developed recipes this may not be your book. But if you're feeling lost and put-out that you can't eat a lot of things, this book will make you much happier.

I bought this book because we recently had to make a switch to dairy-free, which was quite overwhelming at first. This book helped to ease my mind by explaining some scientific data behind dairy intolerance and the many types. I found the setup of the book to be easy to go through and simple to understand. I also liked that there are a WIDE variety of recipes, which do not use complicated appliances. My one tiny negative is the ease of using a recipe while cooking, I think I will either type or make copies of the recipes I choose to use. But I still believe this book is worth a 5 star rating and if you are looking for dairy-free recipes you should buy this!

Good size, lots of space to write things. Very colorful! Each main character gets their own month, and lots of cute pictures of everybody. Some of them are obviously clip art, but the backgrounds are all very nice. Some of the character's outfits are not up-to-date with current happenings in the show, but I imagine they start making calendars ahead of time to get them ready for sale, so this is understandable. Would be great for a fan of the show!

I'm so happy I found this!!!! And that it's half off!! It's big, and beautiful! My pens don't seem to bleed through like they do on some thinner calendars. It has art at the bottom of the calendar pages too, as well as the main pictures. I'd rather have more of the crystal gems than the one of Gregg and cute/funny/sweet ones way more than ones of them in attack mode, but I still love it!

I ordered this to help me get ready for the new year. I used to always forget about things like this and get a calendar a few weeks into the new year. I love the show and this is a great way to keep track of the year. Art changes from location pieces to characters, and is enjoyable. Irony at its highest is that the birthstone for the month of January is Garnet, but the first image of the year is Steven. ;)

This book was used for my senior level nursing informatics course. It served the purpose and covered all of the topics required to pass the exams. It helped that my professor used the slides the authors provided. There were a few things I did not like about the text that made it a difficult read. For starters, the authors use WAY too many abbreviations. I get that all the agencies and programs they are describing in healthcare have abbreviations that stand for something more (for example HIPPA, HITECH act, ACA, etc.), but this book goes overboard. I swear there were some paragraphs that had so many I forgot what I was reading about! I had to go back numerous times to remember what each one stood for, and honestly, they could have gotten the point across without so much unnecessary detail. Second, the unnecessary detail itself was a problem. I don't need the complex history of how each law or regulation evolved since 1900- while a little bit of history can add context, this just seemed to be a list of useless facts that made the reading longer and more complex than needed. Finally, as I always state about nursing texts, I absolutely HATE when authors of a textbook use APA to cite references. APA is bulky and makes reading through the material more difficult. It was hard to discern what was material I may be tested on and what was just references being listed (which are necessary for proper citation, but let's be honest most students don't care about.) I wish the authors of textbooks would realize this and save students the headache!

this was a required book for my schooling. I used it in class and that was it. It is a good resource though and read through much of it. It is very good because of the way healthcare and informatics are now working together. It helps grasp those concepts better.

Helped me pass my certification!

I bought this book because it was required for one of my nursing classes. The book was in very good condition when it arrived. The content of the book is much to be desired. It was very dry and did not keep my attention. The topic of the book is, however, a difficult one to make sound 'fun' and unfortunately, this book did not capture it either.

A lot of the information in this book is outdated, it talks about technology or protocols that aren't used in most hospitals anymore.

Provides a great overview of Nursing Informatics

Very good

Hard to review a book like this. Easy to read and arrived in a timely manner.

Jennifer Bruha, Ph.D. was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area, the eldest of two daughters to Donald and Janis Bruha. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, followed by a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and a Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Notre Dame de Namur University. She earned a second master’s degree and Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.Jennifer has been working as a clinician since 2003 at Our Common Ground, an adolescent residential treatment facility in Redwood City, California, and at the East Palo Alto adult treatment facility since 2009. She designed the Drug Education and Relapse Prevention curriculum at both facilities and continues to facilitate both groups. Her clinical and research interests include addiction, eating disorders, and trauma.In 2010, she was awarded the Alice Kahn Ladas Research Award for her research in mindfulness and eating disorders from the United States Association of Body Psychotherapy. Prescription drug use has exploded as prescriptions are more widely marketed to the public and are made available over the internet. Illicit drug use, likewise, is on the rise. Marijuana and other “natural” drugs, whether legal or illegal, are still popular, as they are relatively cheap, compared to other drugs, and are more socially acceptable. Additionally, over-the-counter drugs such as cough and cold medications and cough syrups have become an inexpensive and easy way to get high. Consequently, this leaves more adolescents feeling unmotivated and unwilling to attend school, complete homework, and fulfill responsibilities, opening the gateway for drug experimentation, behavioral problems, and dropping out of school.In this high stress world, where temptations are everywhere, the economy is in crisis, crime and violence are on the rise, and families are increasingly defined by dysfunction and/or single-parent households, adolescents search for that quick fix to escape from reality. Unfortunately, for many, that desire for a quick fix leads to substance abuse and even addiction, which impacts puberty and adolescent development physically, psychologically, and emotionally. This presents unique challenges in treatment and recovery. Adolescent treatment programs and specialists are grossly underfunded and unavailable, leading to the importance of relapse prevention planning that takes into consideration the special circumstances of adolescence.This workbook addresses these challenges adolescents face in their recovery, regardless of where they fit in the stages of change process.
