The series carried on past where the writers were giving it their full focus. The first novels were about Zoey Redbird, and told from her perspective. Then the writers added other perspectives and more and more. The last novel had so many perspectives it was hard to keep them all straight.I was also disappointed in the ending. Zoey was given special powers by Nix to fight Neferet with elementals. That whole special part of Zoey was forgotten by the ending. Instead of having to trick Neferet into an existing grotto Zoey or Stevie Ray could have asked Earth to create a 1000 foot deep shaft similar to how a tunnel had been created from the terminal underground to the Cat rescue nuns. Zoey could have called fire to flame out the black snakes as she had done to the Raven Maker who cut her. The Elementals which had figured as important powers in the first books were lost. They ended up not using "Old Magic" to remove Neferet's immortality. We are never told how Neferet became immortal but if Old Magic created it then Old Magic might have removed it. Neferet is left confined but not dead. Is that so the writers can bring her back in a future book? Disappointing. And Heath never figures out he was reincarnated by Nix to be back with Zoey. But Heath is sacrificed (how?) to confine Neferet in a shallow grotto rather than in a deep shaft. So Neferet wasn't dead, but Death died without going to Nix. That was irrational and unsatisfactory. And what about Aphrodite? I kept hoping someone would ask Nix to restore her Vampire status. Nobody ever even asked. What was to become of Aphrodite? The creation of a North American Vampire Grand Council was stuck on at the end without much explaination or notice to LA, Chicago, and other Vamp schools in North America.Overall I had to conclude that the writers had made it too complicated with too many characters, told from too many perspectives, and no longer their primary interest. It was just quickly ended without much thought or due diligence.

I enjoyed the first couple of books in this series despite the teen-speak (which sounded like nothing no teenager had ever spoken before). I enjoyed the concept of a vampyre finishing school. This book was okay, but not great. We never see why exactly Kalona changed his mind and decided to come back to the side of "Light." Nothing is particularly new. He realized that he cared for his favorite son, but wasn't this obvious even when he was on the side of evil?Zoey is still a Mary-Sue. At the beginning of the novel, she turns herself in for murdering two humans and expects to face righteous consequences (in her case, death). Who does that?Aurox sacrifices himself to entrap Neferet. What? How does he accomplish this and why couldn't it have been done before? There is no explanation, only the events. Why do humans flock to the HoN for protection when the media has previously made vampyres out to be bloodthirsty creatures? Nobody knows. The romance between Shaunee and Erin seemed rather forced, as if to pacify fans that liked Erik and were disappointed that he was without a love interest after Shaylin became involved with Nicole.Lastly, and this is not an all-inclusive list, it seems that Neferet being trapped like Kalona was a really anti-climactic end to the series. Of course, I knew Zoey and her friends would triumph, but come on.. would Neferet the evil genius really approach Zoey in a nigh-abandoned park and attempt to battle with her? I think not.I give it three stars because, while I was reading the majority of it, it was somewhat compelling. I enjoyed Lynette. This one is not really an issue I had with the conclusion to the series, but it would have been nice if the authors described Zoey's circle's adult vampyre tattoos.

Sadly I am relieved this series is over. When I first started reading Chosen years ago I was so hooked I couldn't get enough of the plot and characters, but I feel the series has been drawn out for too long and has lost much of it's purpose. Zoey didn't really grow and progress as a heroine and many of the other characters fizzled as well. This book was so worked up to and talked about that I thought it would finish with a big exciting finale that would make up for the dullness of the last couple books but unfortunately the big ending I was excited for turned out to be a very anticlimactic and disappointing dud :(

I liked this series in the beginning. It was interesting then, but it was drawn out to long. This series should have ended far sooner. I won't give anything away, but this book has a lot of build up to it and then just a blah ending. Glad it is over.

If there was an option to give it a zero I would give it. This book was awful. Short juvenile sentences. Story lines that are completely irrelevant to the prior 10 books. People that pop into the story just so we don't forget that they existed in prior books. And end battle worthy of a 6th grader. I struggled to read the book and only forced myself because of all the time invested in the prior books. I guess I was hopeful that the book would eventually turn out ok.

When house of night first came out I fell in love with Zoey and her world. I would read in the bathroom at work in class it didn't matter. But the last couple of books had me dying for an ending which was long overdue. The series was starting to lose its ability to surprise me and I found the turns in the plot less and less entertaining. In this book Zoey lets me down as a main character, she fails to rise to the standard she needs to be at and it makes it hard for the reader to continue to sympathize with her at all. Especially when she's nonsensingover boys while the world needs saving. If this is your first time reading a review by P.C Cast don't take this to reflect all of her books! She's an amazing writer!!! In fact I would still recommend this series, I just wasn't impressed with this book.
