I love illustrated editions of HP. I collect them for my daughter who is 9 and already a big fan of the books. This book is a good quality, great paper and simple but beautiful illustrations. It came packaged very good to prevent damages. I liked it a lot . Great edition for our collection.Don’t be a muggle and get it !

This was amazing. I love the art work in this. It is pricey (as per usual with Harry Potter stuff), but it read like a real wizard child's storybook. The same kind of way we have them. The art is a bit different than the other illustrated editions and I prefer that to this, but it is very childlike and skillfully done that I don't mind. I absolutely love what they're doing with the illustrated editions of these books!

My kids are reading Harry Potter with their dad, but sometimes their attention span is not enough for the longer chapters, and this is a nice companion to the full length stories. Just like the illustrated HP books, the kids love the artwork, though I am slightly disappointed that it’s a different artist from the main series. The book arrived in good shape, and seems to be well made, just like the other illustrated editions.

Really beautiful book and artwork. I ordered it as a Christmas gift for my 12 yr old. She saw it on display at the library as a “coming soon” book and was so excited. She loved this character in the series and is so happy he got his own book.

I love how these illustrated HP books have different artists and this one isn't a disappointment. They remind me of classical fairy tale illustrations. The commentary by Dumbledore just make it seem that much more realistic.

This book is absolutely stunning. The illustrations are lovely. This book is the new star of my Harry Potter book collection!

My kids are huge Harry Potter fans (and so am I). It is great to see the companion stories for the Potterworld especially with Dumbledore commentary. My kids have yet to tire of the stories at bedtime even after having read them many many times.

This book is bigger than expected with great illustrations. Suitable for an 8 year on reader of a higher grade level. Thank you for providing this great find as a Christmas gift. You will not be disappointed if your child likes Harry Potter and loves to read.

This text is part of a much larger work entitled `Du droit a la philosophie' (Right to Philosophy), a collection of letters, essays, interviews and talks given by Derrida in the 1970s and 1980s. These deal with issues around teaching philosophy, the nature and problems of philosophical writing and research, how the discipline of philosophy relates to institutions (with a particular emphasis on universities), all with Derrida's classic insight and deconstructive sense of the mind.During the 1960s and into the 1970s, higher education was a centre of change and rebellion, in a polyvalent sense of these terms. Not only growth of the mind and new discoveries that inevitably lead to change, and not only reinterpretation and changing systems and structures due to the deconstruction of traditional and static frameworks, but literally through the rebellion and sometimes violent actions of students (with the support of not a few faculty members, in France and in America), change was taking place. There was a grand meeting called in France in the late 1970s with the intention of discerning the fate of the philosophical discipline, whose proposals (the Haby proposal) were never implemented, but whose spirit helped establish the College International de Philosophie.Derrida first looks at the right to philosophy, from the various ways this sentence can be constructed. What is a right to philosophy? Who has a right to philosophy? What is assumed as foundational and institutional, and what looks out beyond these to horizons? What are rights? Derrida places much emphasis on linguistic interpretation and deconstruction, looking both at the right to language and the right of language in the quest for the right to philosophy. There is a vast amount of privilege here.Derrida looks at the roles of teachers, the very concept and the structure of faculty classes today and in the past. He identifies a crisis in teaching, particularly in the teaching of philosophy, in historical and conceptual paradigms. Philosophy would always be borne of crisis and finds its life in crisis - it is only in the constancy of questions that philosophy continues, which means a constancy of doubt and the unknown, and this can represent crisis. However, there are more `concrete' crises which deal with the political (is philosophy doing what the institution, supported by the state, wants it to do?) and the broader intellectual context of the rise (perhaps dominance) of the mathematical and physical sciences all the while undergoing their own crisis of confidence.This is not an easy text, nor is it one that readers of general philosophy will find of interest. It assumes two things - a high degree of familiarity with Derrida, and a high degree of familiarity with the societal situation in philosophy education, particularly in France. In some ways, this could be a post-modern response to John Henry Newman's `Idea of a University'; in the midst of the particular, Derrida does address in his typical fashion larger ideas of importance to higher education today.

When our son was diagnosed with autism at 18 months, we were anxious for anything we could get our hands on to help us understand what we were dealing with. Our early intervention therapist (a 70 y/o little Japanese lady who is an EXPERT in the field and specializes in kids with special sensory needs like ours) highly recommended this book for us, so I bought it right away. It's wonderful and very helpful/insightful. I highly recommend to any parent of an autistic child or even just one with special sensory needs.

I purchased this book a few years ago, shortly after my son was diagnosed with the second of his 5 diagnoses, Sensory Modulation Disorder (rated severe). Though I worked in healthcare, I was never clinical staff. I spent some time in management purgatory, but my favorite job was in clinical outcomes as a research analyst. So while I had some familiarity with a wide range of topics because of that, the healthcare organization I worked for dealt with mostly geriatric populations, so conditions specific to that group are the areas I was most familiar with. So, I knew enough to recognize generally what was going on with my son when all heck started breaking loose, and if there is any one thing I think I should get a gold star on it was pushing to get him evaluated early on, but I didn't have as many specifics as I felt like I needed to effectively deal with what was happening on the ground level as his mom and primary caregiver. So I started reading as much as I could, and this was one of the first resources I picked up.Because things were jaw dropping. Walk by somebody smoking a cigarette? Gagging and sometimes vomiting. Foamy things touching him? The gagging and always vomiting if it wasn't removed within seconds. Strong smelling cleaners: vomiting until he couldn't smell them anymore. Certain food textures? Vomiting. Over-stuffing his mouth and choking because he couldn't feel how full it was. Clothes? Medieval torture devices based on how he reacted to them. People touching him or getting too close? Hysterics, and sometimes vomiting. Needed constant motion to sleep. Extremely hyper sensitive to sounds and visual stimuli. Hours of meltdowns a day. No reaction to deep pressure impacts, even of a serious nature. Certain things touching his skin, including water? Serious freak outs. 15 minutes or more of screaming with a small scratch. Trying to dive down the stairs...because hey, he couldn't feel what it was doing to his body when he hit the bottom. Sometimes, he'd just walk up to the floor lean on his knees, and then try to crack his forehead on the tile. Yah, that one caused me to get large plush throw pillows to cover the floor with until we could get this behavior resolved and transitioned to something more appropriate with therapy. Picking up my end tables or boxes of rice milk from Costco and throwing them. I could go on, believe me. And, if you are a parent trying to figure out of this book will help you understand what is going on with your kiddo, I'm sure you could go on too about your own struggles, because some of this may sound like your kid, but he/she may have their own challenges that are uniquely theirs. And if I were there where you are, I'd give you a hug and a shoulder, because I'm sure you need it right about now.So, I think this book did a really great job of explaining the types of sensory processing disorders and some things to help with them, and you don't need a medical background at all to understand it the way she explains it. And I think this will give you some great ideas for how to explain things to the people around you, who most likely have decided that the problem is either you've messed up as a parent or that your child is just plain naughty, neither of which are true. So it can be great to have a good foundation for educating the people around you, because, as the author says in this book, “the inability to function smoothly is not because the child won't, but because he can't.”I find that, for my son, as we've been going through the process of sensory integration therapy over the last few years, his sensory issues and needs are ever changing, so I think it is great to have this as a resource to refer back to when needed. Even though my son has gone on to be diagnosed with a few other things, what I can say is that his sensory stuff, though we are still fighting that battle, is so much improved it's a joy to see. He's only vomited once in the past year for a sensory related issue. Other people can now touch him. He's touching things he would never have considered touching before and enjoying it. He's usually sleeping about 7 hours throughout the night without any sort of motion. We can take him out into public without me needing to scrub either one of us down in the bathroom. He can feel some deep pressure impacts now. This book can help you, getting a good occupational therapist can help you, and I also did purchase her book “The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun” to peruse for extra ideas for things to do at home to help encourage sensory integration as well. And I personally recommend educating yourself as much and as extensively as you have time to be able to and to not be afraid to try something new or creative if you think it may help. For me, I feel like if I've just learned one thing from an article or a book that makes a difference in improving the quality of life for my son and his ability to interact with the world, then it was time well spent. And I definitely would rate this book as being time well spent.

I ordered three copies of this book after stumbling upon the audio version on my local library app, why you may ask, we will get to that later in the review.If you have or THINK you might have a child that has Sensory Process Disorder issues, then this book is something you NEED to read. My daughter is 4 and goes to occupational therapy twice a week for SPD. I found everything in the book helpful and more so, it was comforting. Comforting to know that this IS a real thing, comforting to know that I'm not some crazy mom that searching for a "label" to smack on their kid, comforting to know that it isn't my parenting or something I'm doing wrong. This book (along with Peaceful Parent, Happy Kid which is awesome, by the way) has been a light in a first time mother's very stressful, very overwhelming, very emotional life. My daughter is hard, she is simply hard...hard to deal with, hard to approach, hard to get to listen, just hard. The smallest simplest things are battles, she was a hard newborn, a hard infant, a hard baby, a hard toddler and now a hard kid. Nothing, absolutely nothing is easy with her. It has been 4 years of battles, struggles, crying, no sleeping, noise issues, no brushing teeth, clothes issues, settling down issues, sitting still issues, eating issues, just trading one set of problems for a new set. And in this book, I saw, I wasn't alone, it isn't my parenting style, it isn't a phantom label, this is a real thing and kids and their parents struggle with it.This book tells you the science behind SPD, it tells you what to look for with real life examples, it shows you how OT can help, it explains things in ways that a sleep deprived mother can understand and find solace in. It gives you ways to help your child, it gives you hope. It is worth every single penny.Now you must still be wondering, well why did the obviously tired mother here, need THREE copies?Well, one for my husband - who is pretty supportive, however, when our child is acting off the rails, he does agree she isn't "a normal kid", wasn't completely sold on SPD. He read this book at a snails pace, but I'll give him mad props, he DID read it...and he sees our child in the same light i saw her in after reading and listening to this book.The second copy went to the MIL - cue the cricket noises, please...What i got from her after she blew through the book was...."what they describe could be ANY child" and she filled out the traits and didn't really see how her perfect little grandchild "fits" in the SPD category (AND I'm going to be petty enough to mention that this same MIL won't watch the child for more than one night because she is "exhausting"). So there was that, I think I deserve an award or at least a glass of wine for trying.The third book is for me, it sits on my desk at work. Like I mentioned before it gave me comfort and reminds me ways to best approach my sensory seeker to make both our lives easier.So there you have it. This book, although is amazing, it isn't a miracle worker and will not serve as an eye opening scientifically proven manual to those who don't believe in SPD as a "thing", but it DOES help anyone who is looking for advice, science, and answers to weather their child has Sensory Processing Disorder.

Fascinating book. Would reccomend to anyone caring for a child with SPD, or even simply sensory issues. It's a relatively easy read with a TON of practical and helpful information. My son has some sensory issues, and there are parts of this book that are like reading a day in my life. So helpful and informative, but also encouraging for those who are just beginning the journey of sensory disorders with their children. Whether a child in your life has been officually diagnosed with SPD, or you just have a child who struggles with some sensory things, things book is a great resource!NOTE: I'm all for purchasing used books, however this one might me worth buying new. There is at least one questionnaire in the book where you check off these answer that most pertains to your kid. While I was able to make it work, it would have been nice to go through the questionnaire without the markings of the previous owner.

This book really gets to the heart of any parent who has a child who isn't quite "in sync" with his/her world and/or family. There are many great explanations and possible resolutions to problems. I have two children who I have decided need some evaluation to see where they might get help for our problems. A great read with numerous resources. I highly recommend this book.

Perfect for the study I was doing for on Western Liturgy. I used this in conjuction with a number of other texts.

Haven't had time to crack it open yet. I'm confident it is an excellent resource as it was recommended by a solid Dominican teacher.

Dr. Klauser presents a classical interpretation of the changes and developments in the liturgy from the time of Christ to Vatican Council II. The work is divided into four periods which have become standard designations: from the Ascension of Jesus to Gregory the Great, "creative beginnings," (30-590); from Gregory the Great to Gregory VII, "expansion under Franco-German preeminence," (590-1073); from Gregory VII to the Council of Trent, "luxuriant growth," (1073-1545); and from Trent to Vatican II, "unification and regulation," (1545-1963). Each period is introduced with a concise summary followed by Dr. Klauser's discussion. Four appendices are included and the translator has added a page of citations to supplement the 57-page bibliography.Of particular interest to the reader, Dr. Klauser does not hesitate to point out misdirections the Church has taken such as development of the cult of the sacrament playing out "the misuse of the mass as a devotional exercise in front of the monstrance" (p.139). In another example he discusses the shocking revisions to the liturgy brought about by Vatican II (p.153-159). In all, an easy (although scholarly) and informing read, laced with history and enlightening asides.

The book is fairly good. Covers the compiler theory pretty well, and includes a good coverage of advanced topics at the end. I gave it a low rating because the project really kills this book. The first 12 chapters are a walk-through gide for building a compiler for the tiger language (which the author defined). The tiger language itself is weird at first since it doesn't have any statements. It only has expressions. Besides, the language is not thoroughly documented in the book and leaves a lot of things open for the implementor. At any rate, after building the first few chapters (about the time you've done the parse tree) the book starts to get confusing, dedicating more and more space to describe the bits and pieces of the project (which I read somewhere was ported to C from ML). All in all it's a good reference book, but it's really confusing if this is your primary text. I'd recommend it as a secondary textbook. And I wouldn't recommend tiger for a compiler project, better use decaf (search google).

Appel spends far too much time wrestling with C over actually explaining compilers. After talking to others, it appears the ML version of this book is the way to go, and the Java version suffers the same problems as the C version.

Thought that this might be a second edition of this book (there is a second edition of Appel's Java book).However, this is a "Paperback Re-Issue" of the original 1997 edition.

Despite what others have said in their reviews, this is not a bad book at all for those who *already have some basic exposure to compiler theory.*This book is weak on types of grammars and the differences between LL, LR and LALR parsers for instance, and could include a hell of a lot more material on using parser generators. BUT it includes a lot of readable material on more advanced topics like code generation and garbage collection. It covers the design and implementation of object oriented languages, which is a pleasant suprise.Before tackling this book, I recommend starting with something like "Crafting a Compiler with C" by Fischer and LeBlanc. Before using this book, you must have a masterful command of the C language (in my opinion the C code is unusually ugly in this book, too).I don't care too much for the ongoing project of the Tiger language and compiler, but it's better than nothing. (The author may as well have compiled Pascal instead).I've covered a fair amount work and even then had to read this book carefully. I've tackled books like "Compilers: Principles, Techniques and Tools" (the so called Dragon Book) and "Crafting a Compiler with C," amongst dozens of others. This is not a light read, and it is quite dense. But it's straight to the point, and covers material other compiler construction books don't.One of the high points of this book is that it won't put you to sleep! It really IS readable. Finally, I will emphasise again, this is not a beginner's text.

I chose this textbook for a five-student independent study course. The book's concept is great: Define a substantial language, and describe a compiler for it over the semester, having the students write the interesting bits. I was excited to read this text and do the project with my students.The book (at least the first half) stands or falls on the project. The project itself is outstanding - there are several interesting tidbits. It's probably too large for a three-credit course at most institutions - I had to pare it down by giving additional pieces to my students.Unfortunately, the project destroys the book. The book devotes large portions of the first half to trying to explain it. Explanations are only marginally coherent. To make sense, the project desperately needs detailed, low-level documentation, listing each function of each module and what it does. Additionally, it would work better if there were a clearer distinction of where the theory ends and the project begins.The program is itself well-structured on the high level. Within functions, they need to format code properly. They do some interesting things with trying to do functional programming within C - a controversial move, but not one that I mind. The definite impression I get is that the publishers demanded a C version against Appel's will. I haven't read the Java or ML versions, but I bet the code is better (especially ML).Outside the project, I found the book strong. The algorithms are well-presented, with lots of outstanding examples. (My students found them confusing; I attribute that to the material's inherent difficulty, not the writing.) It does a thorough job, but not overly thorough. Some of the later chapters on advanced topics I've found slightly less complete - but they're advanced topics, after all.I'd recommend it over the dragon book; but it's a close call. But this could be so much better so easily... Appel just needs to flesh out the project, and he'd have a truly great book.

From the chapters we have covered in the course at my University, the overall impression of the book is great.Some topics contain various algorithms and approaches to the same problem, which may be confusing at first,but when the concepts are grasped provides great understanding.But the inline-code presented is not very readable (bad formatting and naming conventions) in my opinion.The parts that are independent of the concrete compiler-project presented in the book are the best.

Not so bad, not so good... it has good topics, but there are not implementation of how to build it, the small number of sample have some unique (rare) style... if you intent to write your first compiler this is NOT your book, if you already made one and pass for some frustating issues then this is your book...
